It was a busy weekend for 3-star linebacker Vincent Jackson from Jesuit High School in Tampa, Fla.
Jackson and with his friend, 4-star offensive guard Isaiah Wynn, visited both Alabama and Auburn. They arrived at Alabama Friday night, meeting with Nick Saban before heading to Auburn Saturday night.
They met with Gus Malzahn before heading home Sunday morning.
“It was nice,” Jackson said of his time in Auburn. “We came in (Saturday) night. We talked with Coach Malzahn. He’s a great guy and I feel that he’s one of those coaches that I can build a great relationship with. He was open and honest with us, which I don’t really feel with some coaches.”
Jackson met with defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Ellis Johnson Sunday morning. Auburn is recruiting him as an inside linebacker.
“I just thought he was a great guy,” Jackson said. “Of course, he’s a legendary guy in the SEC and I feel like playing underneath a guy like him would benefit me.
“...He told me they’re really trying to get guys in the next class to play early because they need the whole program to change around quickly. They’re not that deep there.”
Jackson, 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, doesn’t have a definite top group of schools yet but expects both the Tigers and Tide to be finalists. He has close to 30 offers and plans to take his time making a decision.
“The SEC is really what I’m leaning towards,” he said. “I like schools outside of the conference like Oregon and FSU and Miami. Right now, the Auburn and Alabama visits kind of set apart from the other visits. They were really nice.
“...I met with Coach Saban (Saturday) and talked with him about 10 minutes before I left. I picked up an offer (Saturday) night. I just feel like these schools will most likely be top three or top five come Signing Day.”
Jackson is not related to former Auburn, NFL and MLB player Bo Jackson or current NFL wide receiver Vincent Jackson.
