Tight at the Top

In the 247Sports Recruiter Rankings very little separates the top two coaches at the moment. In fact, Bryan McClendon of Georgia has a lead over Auburn's Dameyune Craig that is best described as razor thin.

McClendon surged into the lead after two of his targets committed to Georgia last weekend.

Not to be outdone, Craig landed verbal No. 7 last week when Georgia athlete Stanton Truitt decided to be a Tiger.

The way things look now, both figure to remain in the hunt for No. 1 all the way to National Signing Day.

Not only are both coaches considered young up-and-comers, but each is proving you can go home again -- and succeed on the recruiting trail. Here's a brief look at both:

Bryan McClendon
School: Georgia
Title: Running Backs Coach
Age: 29
Hometown: Atlanta, Ga.
Alma-mater: Georgia (2002-05)
Salary: $235,000
Playing accomplishments: McClendon played in 45 games at Georgia with 14 starts as a receiver. He finished with 53 catches for 758 yards and five touchdowns. In a memorable 2005 win over Georgia Tech, he had the game-winning touchdown reception in the closing minutes.
2014 commits: Five as primary recruiter, one as secondary recruiter.
Top 2014 commit: RB Sony Michel, No. 13 overall in the 247Composite and a five-star.
Top remaining target: DE Lorenzo Carter, No. 5 overall

Dameyune Craig
School: Auburn
Title: Co-Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers Coach
Age: 39
Hometown: Pritchard, Ala.
Alma-mater: Auburn (1994-97)
Salary: $350,000
Playing accomplishments: Craig was a QB at Auburn, and he still holds school passing records for completions (216) and passing yards (3,227) in a season. He guided Auburn to an 18-7 record as a starter, in 25 career starts, and earned Academic All-SEC honors in 1997. He spent a handful of seasons in the NFL, mostly with the Carolina Panthers.
Top 2014 commit: ILB Tre'' Williams, No. 40 overall and No. 3 at ILB in the 247Composite
Top remaining target: WR D'haquille Williams, the No. 1 JUCO prospect.
