Talented 2015 OL visits Auburn

Tyler Carr is just a sophomore but is already receiving recruiting interest from some of the nation’s top programs including Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Notre Dame.

On Saturday, the offensive tackle from Southside in Gadsden visited Auburn for the Louisiana-Monroe game. Carr, whose father is an Auburn graduate, has been to several previous Auburn games but this was his first visit as a recruit.

“It was magnificent. The game was fun to watch. It’s a great atmosphere,” Carr said. “They have very loyal fans. They all seem very friendly. Everyone was always smiling and real nice to me. It’s just a real friendly place and a nice atmosphere.”

While Carr grew up an Auburn fan, he’s wide open in his recruitment and has already visited several other schools. He plans to take his time making a decision.

“I want to go where I’m most welcome, where the atmosphere is nice and all the fans support their team,” he said.

Carr visited Georgia this summer and hopes to return for a game this fall.

“Athens was real nice,” he said. “They have a beautiful campus. They were real nice to me. They took me throughout the facilities, beautiful weight room. It’s a real magnificent place.”

He also camped at Georgia Tech this summer.

“I got to meet Coach Paul Johnson. They took me up to his office and showed me around. I liked it up there,” he said. “They seem to be headed in the right direction. I’m hoping to catch a game up there too this year.”

Earlier this fall, Carr visited Vanderbilt for a practice.

“I got to sit in on the offensive line meeting and they took me around and showed me everything,” he said. “I saw them scrimmage. It was real nice.”

Carr plans to attend an Alabama and a Vanderbilt game in the coming weeks.

Carr, 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds, is a starting defensive lineman and plays spot duty on offense this season. He’s helped Southside to a 3-0 start.

“I think (colleges) are mostly looking at me as an offensive tackle but I’ll play either one,” he said. “...It’s going great. We’re 3-0 for the first time since 1996 so it’s been a pretty big year so far.”
