a SMART hire?

  • I don't know about the rest of you but I would really like to see Kirby Smart hired. Now I know that he has no HCing experience but I have a gut feeling about him. A sports show talking head said that AU would not want someone from the "other side" but I don't think that way. He's sharp, intelligent, young and I feel very capable. Any thoughts?

  • I think he would be a great hire, He has proven himself as a leader and winner. Plus, who would know how to beat Saban better than Him. The old saying "offense wins games, and defense wins championships" holds true still today. Just look this years Alabama team. They were 2nd or 3rd best defense in the nation and look where they are headed. I think KS would bring a new fresh unity among the fanbase. Plus, I believe that working under Saban would give him the recruiting experience he needs to be successful and competitive. I also wonder how many defensive recruits to Alabama would consider changing commitments if he was at Auburn.

Lot's of mixed emotions in this one. One thought I had was - will Saban encourage Smart NOT to take the job? Since Smart has been with him so long and at several stops, who does he turn to when he needs that sage advice? Will he get it from Saban? Will Dye try to get involved and spin his out of date spiel on him?

Personally, I don't like the idea of Gus coming back. I'd have to know if the rumors about discipline are true and why he didn't address it or try to in some way. I love Petrino as a coach however, I believe that he would hurt our brand that is almost always under false attack or some suspicion or bull-shite coming from hate mongerers like Doyel or Scarbinsky. Petrino only brings a can of gas to that bonfire.

At the end of the day, the HC sets a direction and the assistants run the show. Who does Smart bring? and if those guys he might bring are also up and comers; why aren't they on our radar as well? I don not like the UA connection but a disciple of a modern day icon is interesting.
