3-star defensive tackle Darius Philon (Mobile, AL Vigor) became one of the first additions to Auburn's 2012 class after pledging to the Tigers following Big Cat Weekend. The Macy Gray look-a-like has since seen his recruitment take off, recieving interest from all over the southeast. Philon even managed an Alabama offer after a strong performance at the Tide's senior camp. The Mobile native has since let it be known that he is listening to the UA staff.
Philon may have said the following: 'Auburn? They're alright I guess, but their lack of ESPYs was disconcerting. I think i will wait until the FBI is done probing Bobby Lowder (no homo) before I sign anything'. Philon is a clever wordsmith much like his R&B counterpart. He continued 'Bama has something like half of the national championships that have ever been awarded. That kind of tradition is hard to match. '
Philon plans to turn his attention to his senior year and trying to win a state championship. 'I figure that as of right now I am an Auburn commit, so I should try to win one before it's too late.' Philon believes that the Vigor squad, that included several D1 level prospects, has a good chance to do just that.
'I think we've got a real good chance of taking it all this season. We just need to buckle-down and try to stick to the 'process', as coach Saban says'.Philon's recruitment is sure to be a rollercoaster of Spencer Regionesque propotions for both Alabama and Auburn. One thing that both teams can be sure of is that the talented tackle will be staying instate 'I don't want to leave Alabama. I try to say goodbye and I choke, try to walk away and I stumble.'
