***Brian VanGorder said several LB's will play more this week...

  • ***VanGorder said he saw some better things in Saturday's games but still too much inconsistency. He said he was real pleased with the way his defenders hung in there with 89 plays and played hard up to the end. He said their communication wasn't as good as it needs to be.

"There's some things to be pleased about and enough to be concerned about," VanGorder said.

***VanGorder said he's impressed with LSU's run game, their big backs, OL, and their receivers on the outside.

***VanGorder said he expected inconsistencies but has been surprised about Auburn's poor tackling and inability to make plays, especially in the secondary, on defense.

"There's still a tremendous amount of growth," he said.

***VanGorder said his DT's made progress Saturday and it's very important that they continue to step up their games.

***VanGorder said they will play a lot more base defense against LSU and not nickel. He said we will see Cassanova McKinzy play quite a bit along with Jonathan Evans and Justin Garrett and maybe another safety.

***VanGorder said Kris Frost is still in the process of learning and has a lot of work to do. He said they're hoping there are some situations where he is ready to contribute.

***Robenson Therezie is still working at RB but VanGorder said they haven't closed the door on him returning to defense.

***VanGorder said he feels like his players are growing each week into the details of the defense, which is crucial. He said things are still relatively simple on defense so his players can execute.

"I like where they're headed in a lot of respects," he said.

***VanGorder on if he'd like to put out bigger defensive players against LSU...

"Are you suggesting I go to the waiver wire?" he joked.

***VanGorder said Dee Ford played a very good game other than the mistake he made on the 39-yd TD run by the ULM quarterback.
