this might be a touchy subject, but....

  • for anyone in here that is a minority, and you were interviewed for a job because of affirmative action, or if you were an NFL coach and you were interviewed because of the Rooney rule, would you feel insulted that you were interviewed because of your race?

Yes, I would. Especially if I didn't have a legitimate shot at getting the job.

Hell naw, eff that. In this world I will take every advantage I can get. I wouldn't care how I got the opportunity, cause I work my ass off when I got it.

I'm a Steelers fan (I grew up there), and the Rooney Rule was put in place to at least ensure fairness in the interview process. The Rooneys practice what they preach as well. I don't think anyone looks at Mike Tomlin and thinks he got his HC job because of his skin color. Ken Whisenhunt got mad because he didn't get the job, but he's currently looking for a new gig after getting fired by AZ. I don't think any "unqualified" minority candidates are getting interviews because of the Rooney Rule.So it's doing what it was supposed to do.

  • The only reason it may be a touchy subject is because people continually bring up the "race" issue. If we all quit focusing on it then it would no longer be a touchy subject. I'm just saying...WDE!

  • I would honestly think I was a legitimate candidate for the job. I think affirmative action should be dead immediately. It puts a crutch on the black community that says we need a head start. I wanna win a race form the starting line and not 30 meters ahead from the jump. We have a black president for gods sake, I think its time.

  • if you think black candidates are starting 30 meters ahead because of affirmative action, then you need to read up on some US history. That 30 meters gets them closer to the starting line but not ahead of it. The success of the Rooney Rule coaches shows that there were more than enough quality black coaches that never got a shot from years past. For every Mike Tomlin of today, how many in the past could have done the same but didn't get a shot because of the old(white) boy network? It wasn't that long ago that black QBs weren't considered to have what it takes to play that position in the NFL and certainly not what it takes to get to the Super Bowl. Don't know your age but I remember when james Harris was a novelty at QB and Doug Williams and the doubts that accompanied them simply because they were black and the 'rep' they carried that they wouldn't or couldn't be pocket passers or didn't have the intelligence. That's fairly recent history. That kind of stuff doesn't disappear overnight because the nation elected a black man twice as President.

I'm in the 47% pulling the wagon so that makes me a minority. No it would not bother me.
