no matter how much i dwell on this season it just makes no sense. As a person responsible for making hires, i understand it is normally an educated gamble. you never know until you get to observe how someone performs. There is no way our ship can be righted with the current staff so we begin the search process. What would you look for? We have recent experience that you can not go with proven coordinator experience. We must go with successful HC experience. Preferably someone taking a down program and showing immediate improvements. This does not necessarily have to be at the top most level but it is very helpful.
Take a look at where we are by choosing a successful coordinator. A producer of top 5 rated defenses consistently. A recepient of the Broyles Award. A producer of 2 Thorpe Award winners, 1 Lombardi Award Winner, 1 Heisman winner. Been an integral part of 3 undefeated seasons within the past 8 years. Three straight top 10 recruiting classes and a potential #1 class on the horizon. Proven that he can make a great hire in a coordinator. We have a DC who is also a Broyles award winner. Produced top 5 defenses. NFL DC experience. We have climbed the mountain and reached the peak but now stand on the edge of the precipice. We should be secure with our footing but are falling over the cliff. It just makes no sense.
Bottom line we need to act like an 80 million dollar per year big boy. Get someone in here with a plan. Someone like,....oh yeah, Tubbs.
