OK, Zeke Pike had a terrible camp off-season. There's no other way to put it. After speaking to the Elite 11 folks following his Camp at Ohio State, they said they didn't know how they would be able to invite him to the final event. They ended up inviting him after he had a better day the following day. Look at the list of Elite 11 performers (24 of them) and you'll see that very few of them are rated as 4-stars on this site as well.

We didn't drop him too drastically because we wanted to see what Zeke would do as a senior. His team has gone 3-7 and he's thrown 14 interceptions but more of a concern has been the off-field issues. He continues to get suspended and show poor judgement. A lot of positions you can get away with that but not at quarterback. I'm not sure how you would define a four-star but it's hard to argue that he should remain a four-star. We'll see him at the Army game. So the evaluation process is far from finished.

With Yeldon, we will potentially see him in 3 different settings over the next two months in person. He will absolutely be a five-star as long as he checks out in person which we expect him to.

Since when did yall start punishing kids rankings based on his teams performance? Makes a whole lot of sense, I wonder how much research yall put into what kind of team he plays on, watched a game, or the injuries they've had. Id guess none.

BTW on the Elite 11 performers I saw him as one of the most improved. He had like 3 days they reported that he didnt have 1 incompletion. Im guessing yall didnt give him any credit for that either.

I understand him dropping after sub par performances in camps. But he was injured. You're going to get criticized for stuff like this because yall pick and choose who you will make exceptions for and drop players for certain reasons. Im just saying

You're not bringing up points that haven't been considered. Based on the complete picture, we made the move with him. You're welcome to disagree. But you would be disagreeing based on seeing far less of this kid and knowing much less about him than myself and our staff.

  • If your looking at the big picture I can't agree with you then. Pike came into the Elite 11 healthy for the first time over the summer, finished one of the best QBs there, and his performance overall ranked right under the top QB in the nation, Winston, and had George Whitfield nothing but bragging about how great he would become I dont really get it. You see him healthy for first time and decide to drop him massively after finishing strong at the Elite 11.

I can understand dropping him some, but to continue to do so because he plays on a bad team I just can't agree. Your going to be criticized and deserve to be. If you knew anything about his season you'd know his teams top RBs got hurt and he had to take over role as QB and RB practically. In one game he had something like 50 carries and passing also.

Sucks, I guess if goes 29 for 30 but he throws one bad pass at the All star games you'll take that as reason to drop him even lower.

  • as for Yeldon, sorry you havent seen enough of him. His team only played on NATIONAL TELEVISION. Maybe you just choose to watch Daphne's defense that game since Anderson doesn't play offense to. Hate you missed it, he dominated it too.

    Big A

  • It really doesn't matter. The only rankings that anyone cares about are Rivals and Scout. 247 is not really recognized as a recruiting ranking service.

I saw that game. TJ Yeldon made a big jump in the rankings.

  • I agree with you Barton, Pike should not be a four star. Here is my question. If Pike was a bama commit would he still be a four star? Please answer honestly.

Should I assume your no reply to my question is an answer in itself?

If you saw that game, then you wouldn't have bumped Ryan Anderson up like you did.

  • This thread is embarrassing. Zeke isn't a four star because he hasn't earned his fourth star. He threw more interceptions than TDs against some of the worst competiton in America. If he cant dominate those little kids from KY, what makes you think hes going to take the SEC by storm? Barton isn't biased against Auburn. Everyone isn't out to get Auburn. Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, start acting like adults.

Bart, keep up the good work.

Sorry guys but this is exactly the way I felt about it when Pike started messig up. Granted it has been stated that he is the only real athlete on the team, but he hasn't had a Tremendous senior season and like Bart is sayng, "the off the field issues" don't make for a lot of promise. I know this sounds crazy but I would think that they have seen and talked to one maybe even 2 more people than WE have about Pike. And with whats been reported about Pike for the last several months I've got my doubts. He has promise BUT.... Come on. If the head ain't there then the promise don't mean jack. Point in case. The best athlete I ever saw was Rodney Hudson. QB for the 1991 USA Today HS National Champions. He and Walt Harris, who played 12 years in the NFL as a CB, went to Miss St. to play for Jackie Sherrill. Rodney was incredible but his head wasn't all there. He was Cam without the intelligence to know that he had to be better than everyone else too. Both on and off the field. He was my friend and could have truly been special. but ultimately he messed it all up. A real shame.

Honestly who cares. If the coaches have enough faith in him to be the only QB Auburn takes this year then its the right fit for Auburn.Stars be damned. Honestly it will ultimately be up to Zeke to prove them wrong and he will have to work to do it.

"Oh bama got better opinions than Auburn did....!"
"Your stupid and don't know what your talking about! I hate all the sites every other year or so because they just help bama and screw Auburn in some way."

    Kinda silly....headslap

  • Please read carefully through the info below and if you can make sense of a conspiracy in there somewhere, you are far, far smarter than I. In fact, you may be far, far smarter than I am, and I'm guessing you still won't be able to find a conspiracy in the examples below.

ESPN has him a 3-star as well. Rivals has him as a 4-star.
Zeke Pike is a 4-star on Rivals, but a 3-star on both ESPN and 247.
TJ Davis is a 3-star on Rivals and 247, but is a 4-star on ESPN.
Tyler Nero is a 3-star on Rivals and ESPN, but is a 4-star on 247.
Yeldon is a 4-star on all three services. Very close to 5-star on Rivals and 247, mid-level on ESPN.

    Last year....
    Kris Frost was a 5-star on Rivals, a high 4-star on 247, and a mid-4-star on ESPN.

Sammie Coates was a 3-star on ESPN and Rivals, but a 4-star on 247.
Tre Mason was a 3-star on 247, a solid 4-star on Rivals, and a very bottom 4-star on ESPN.
Jalen Denson was a 3-star on ESPN and 247, but a 4-star on Rivals.
CJ Uzomah was a 3-star on ESPN and Rivals, but a 4-star on 247

    2010....
Kenneth Carter was a 3-star on ESPN, but a 4-star on Rivals and 247.
Jawara White was unrated on 247, a 3-star on Rivals, and a 4-star on 247.
Jake Holland was a 3-star on ESPN, but a 4-star on Rivals and 247.

    For Alabama...

Casey Gladney is a 4-star on ESPN, but a 3-star on Rivals and 247.
Ryan Anderson is a 4-star on ESPN and 247, but is a 3-star on Rivals.
Kenyan Drake is a 4-star on Rivals and 247, but is a 3-star on ESPN.
Amari Cooper is Alabama's 3rd best recruit on Rivals, but is 5th best on ESPN, and 11th best on 247.
Brandon Greene is Alabama's 3rd best recruit on ESPN, but 10th best on 247, and 12th best on Rivals.

    Last year...
Danny Woodson was a 4-star on both ESPN and Rivals, but a 3-star on 247.
Ryan Kelly was a 4-star on 247, but a 3-star on ESPN and Rivals.
Xavier Dickson was Alabama's 3rd best recruit on ESPN, but 7th best on Rivals and 9th best on ESPN.
Dee Hart was Alabama's 7th best recruit on 247 and 8th best on ESPN, but 2nd best on Rivals.

    2010...
DeMarcus Milliner was a 5-star on Rivals, but a 4-star on ESPN and 247.
Arie Kouandjio was a 3-star on ESPN, but a 4-star on 247 and Rivals.
Keiwone Malone was a 4-star on both ESPN and Rivals, but a 3-star on 247.
Chad Lindsey was a 4-star on ESPN, but a 3-star on both Rivals and 247.
