Zeke Pike being dropped to 3-star is a joke...

  • qgittings said...

So now the ranking system includes "soft" skills i.e. off the field skills? Seems like rankings would be based on football skills on the field....

Not necessarily. Many very physically talented players never make significant contributions to a team due to off the field issues. That has happened at AU over the last year, It is certainly hard to see how these issues should be weighed in assigning rankings, but it is not insane to give them some weight.

He had a bad camp coming off a shoulder surgery that he obviously hadn't fully recovered from....

You spoke to the Elite 11 folks and they told you they didn't know how they would invite him to the final even, but they did, what is your point??

    HE DIDN"T THROW 14 INT"S

Pikes Stats: For the season, Pike was 163-for-262 passing for 2,011 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Pike has also rushed 149 times for 883 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Also, he team went 3-8, not 3-7, that doesn't help the Pike cause, but proves that you hardly know what you're talking about here.

Zeke is a leader on and off the field, if you are going to knock a kid for smoking synthetic pot, you may want to drop half the kids in the country.

With offers from nearly every elite school in the country, along with his size, 6'6 225, and the fact that he did make the final cut at the elite 11, it's hard to argue that he should be a 3-star prospect.

Your post further proves to me the lack of knowlege by the national analyst.

He went 3-8 after losing the first round playoff game that he was suspended for. So 3-7 regular season. I was reciting stats off hand, not reading them. But I have seen his numbers.

I saw Zeke Pike at more off-season events than any other QB. He wasn't the one of the best performers at any of them. The Elite 11 was probably his best effort but it was still inconsistent.

I hope he has a great career. I've always liked the kid whenever I've dealt with him. But he needs to mature, and he is way too inconsistent right now. I also know of schools that offered him but would only take him as a tight end.

This is our thought-process. You can disagree all you want but at this point if we were to keep him a four-star it would only be because he was committed to Auburn. He's not had a four-star spring, summer or fall.

We take into account any information that we're privy to, just like coaches do. And no position is character more important than the QB position.

It just seems really really subjective, issues that may bother some coaches may not even make the radar for others, however the lowest common denominator for everyone would be on the field results, physical specs, etc.

Nice to know how these are rankings are based though.

Look, I think Pike may come to Auburn and be very good. But have you watched his film? He's playing against 8th graders. He looks like Shaq out there when he's running...it's no wonder he has over 800 yards rushing. My point it that these guys get paid to evaluate on what they see far more than what the stat line looks like.

I live in the San Antonio area and there are probably 10 quarterbacks around here with better stats that are playing ten times the competition. That doesn't mean any of them project as 4-star college quarterbacks.

I'm a little confused as to why you pay money to get the opinions of experts and then insult them when their opinion doesn't match your own. That doesn't make much sense to me. Why even bother to read what others have to say if you're only going to believe yourself in the end anyway?

These are the stats I have from compiling the stats sent to me each week from a Dixie Heights coach. I've emailed him for the final stats just to make sure my totals are correct:

Pike finished his senior season completing 156-of-267 passes for 1,964 yards with 13 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He rushed for 728 yards and 16 touchdowns on 196 carries.

  • I have viewed rankings in many sports.Baseball rankings are very similar in nature. To get a "Perfect Game Top 500" baseball you need only pay them about four or five times for a camp they run. Lesser kids get more talk and higher rankings when they attend certain camps. That is the business they are in.

I do not know about football rankings that much. But having seen Yeldon highlights and some of the other higher ranked Rbs video highlights. Most are not even close. To have to see a guy in person to rank him this day and age is pretty flimsy excuse. In a RB there is size, speed, vision, power, and quickness. There will not be many that can match Yeldon on all of those. He is a 5* in my book.

Nobody told Zeke they would only take him only as a Tight End, I believe you are straight up making that up.

Why would they do that, he has played QB and excelled there as a junior, picked up a ton of offers, yet a few schools just wanted him as a TE?

Has he ever played TE, is it possible to play TE and QB at the same time?

When have these "supposed schools" seen him play TE to offer him at that position, who knows if he can catch or not if they have never seen him play TE?? Yet schools offered him only to play TE...

Your post here isn't as misinformed as the first one, but close.

And that's not a great season by any stretch of the imagination. I'm sorry but I'm not nearly as sold on this kid as some folks seem to be.

Excuse me for being objective of the so called "experts" on this site. I didn't realize it was against the rules to be objective of these rankings... Does that make sense to you??

Excuse me for believing that an Elite 11 QB who is 6'6 225 with offers from elite programs all over the country is a 4-star prospect.

Like I say, the only reason Im on this site is because of Bryan Matthews and Phillip Marshall, these 2 guys are worth the $100.

I couldn't care less if Barton S is on this site or not.

Again, I realized coming into this site of all the issues with bamaonline.com at rivals, and how a few analyst at rivals admitted that bama rankings were inflated. I realized that coming into that site, it is what gives me reason to believe that the rankings are biased.

I 100% believe that if Zeke Pike were committed to Bama, he be sitting with 4-star status right now.

synthetic pot may not be against the law but it is evidently against the team rules. He got suspended for smoking it. It is absolutely in order to ask whether he has character issue and lacks leadership skills if he has a problem abiding by team rules.

  • I don't buy what you're selling. I don't buy it one bit. If he was Bama, he'd be a 5th star and you know itl.

    sparkey

  • I tend to agree with pike ranking.....big guy who runs well but throws a wobbly ball and lots of pics...high three star with good upside if he stays out of trouble low four star without off field issues
