Zeke Pike being dropped to 3-star is a joke...

  • We all need an explanation right now for this one.

You do realize he was an Elite 11 QB, and happens to be 6'6 225??

Let me add in that he has an offer from almost every single elite school in the country.
Bama, UF, LSU, USC, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Tennessee... just to name a FEW

All the analyst/scouts at this site just lost ALOT of credibility. I can't take any of your rankings seriously anymore.

  • Also, Chris Black, shockingly a bama commit is ranked the last 5-star. a 5'11 WR without elite skillset is ranked ahead of a 6'2 210 RB in TJ Yeldon freak. Good call 247.

Stefon Diggs, likely headed to Auburn, takes a dive in the rankings.. Just hilarious really.

I was a member of rivals, and remember all the stuff with BamaOnline and one of the national analyst straight up saying that rankings were inflated for bama. This couldn't be more obvious here. Appealing to the fanbase who has the most members on the site, good business move... But credibility in the rankings is lost.

  • I would hence end all affiliation with 247 then and start our own site with just Phillip and Bryan! What a joke! The one about the RB is even worse.

  • And here...we...go lol

That is pretty crazy for Pike to drop all the way to a 3 star. I remember in previous threads they said that they rank the people they view and get to watch the most. So, I would assume stars are partly based on who gets the most view time.

It is an interesting coincidence, but our class will be great regardless. Best thing to do is to stop worrying about rankings. Do what I do and look at all of the various sites to make your own estimate.

It's just the fact that the bias is so obvious.

Bryan and Phillip are THE ONLY reason I am staying on this site right now.

  • OK,
Zeke Pike had a terrible camp off-season. There's no other way to put it. After speaking to the Elite 11 folks following his Camp at Ohio State, they said they didn't know how they would be able to invite him to the final event. They ended up inviting him after he had a better day the following day. Look at the list of Elite 11 performers (24 of them) and you'll see that very few of them are rated as 4-stars on this site as well.

We didn't drop him too drastically because we wanted to see what Zeke would do as a senior. His team has gone 3-7 and he's thrown 14 interceptions but more of a concern has been the off-field issues. He continues to get suspended and show poor judgement. A lot of positions you can get away with that but not at quarterback. I'm not sure how you would define a four-star but it's hard to argue that he should remain a four-star. We'll see him at the Army game. So the evaluation process is far from finished.

With Yeldon, we will potentially see him in 3 different settings over the next two months in person. He will absolutely be a five-star as long as he checks out in person which we expect him to.

  • Come on guys. It's not like every other recruiting site has Pike as a solid 5*, the dude has questions. Get over it.

On TJ, the 247 staff has said over, and over that when they see him in person he will likely get that "coveted" 5th star. He didn't camp at any of the events that 247 had staff at. Can you blame them for waiting to put an eyeball on him? Would you rather they evaluate on what they hear versus what they see?

Down vote me all you want, but I just don't get the consternation.

No no no, it's because you hate Auburn and love Alabama. All that other stuff is just coincidence.

    sarcasm

Seriously, thanks Barton for chiming in and giving, what I consider, a rational, well thought out explanation. Especially noteworthy is that of the 24 kids invited to the Elite 11 event, very few of them are 4-star recruits.

You may have also pointed out that while Pike does have offers from all those schools, I don't think I've read about any of them actively, consistently recruiting him.

I'm still looking forward to him coming to Auburn, as I think once he gets into the program and gets some better structure and leadership around him he'll grow up a little and leave the controversies behind. But as for your rankings...I think you know a lot more about it than we do and your assessment seems fair.

  • I don't pay attention to the rankings. Players will earn their "stars" on the field. When they get to the college level we find out who the winners are and who was over rated.

    TaterBlade

  • So now the ranking system includes "soft" skills i.e. off the field skills? Seems like rankings would be based on football skills on the field....

He had a bad camp coming off a shoulder surgery that he obviously hadn't fully recovered from....

You spoke to the Elite 11 folks and they told you they didn't know how they would invite him to the final even, but they did, what is your point??

    HE DIDN"T THROW 14 INT"S

    Pikes Stats:
For the season, Pike was 163-for-262 passing for 2,011 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Pike has also rushed 149 times for 883 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Also, he team went 3-8, not 3-7, that doesn't help the Pike cause, but proves that you hardly know what you're talking about here.

Zeke is a leader on and off the field, if you are going to knock a kid for smoking synthetic pot, you may want to drop half the kids in the country.

With offers from nearly every elite school in the country, along with his size, 6'6 225, and the fact that he did make the final cut at the elite 11, it's hard to argue that he should be a 3-star prospect.

Your post further proves to me the lack of knowlege by the national analyst.

We take into account any information that we're privy to, just like coaches do. And no position is character more important than the QB position.
