Would Firing CTR NOW really

  • hurt us more than if we let him stay the remainder of the season. After three seasons of his coaching, coach GC needs to know that Roof is not capable. IMO I think CGC hired Roof for his HC experience. It is time to cut him loose.
I know it sounds harsh, but what recruit would want to play for a Defensive coach that gives up more yards and points than any coach in Auburn history. Future recruits need to know that there will be a change and it will be for the better.
I promise you that a poor defense can improve with change. I feel sorry for our current players. They are better than this and CTR is making them look awful.

I didn't see Roof miss a single tackle. I didn't see Roof blow one single assignment. I didn't see Roof let their best receiver run free all day.
Bottom line is these players are young, and better grow up in a hurry and man up, or it's going to be a long year. There were some bonehead plays out there today.

  • At some point it may occur to us that even freshmen ought to be able to tackle by the time they reach the third game. That is coaching.

    kingofhill

  • your comment is dumb. Clemson is juat as young as we were they had 43 freshman. Dyer could have controlled that game.

  • If it's a coaching problem, fire the coordinator. If it's because we are starting 18 year old freshmen, then we may just have to endure this. Maybe if coach Tuberville had recruited instead of going duck hunting things might be different.

  • I don't think Roof is a bad coach.....that's COACH and not coordinator. He has proven to be over his head trying to design an SEC defense and then scheme to counter what the offense is doing. Absolutely CLUELESS! I think the change must be made now....tonight.....and I think it can be done so that it's not detrimental to the team. Here goes: Coach Chizik has to immediately take over the defense as the coordinator, and we all know he can get it done. He made his bones that way. He needs to meet with Roof and offer him the position of 'Linebackers coach'(supposedly, Roof is coaching LBs already so from a continuity standpoint that would be good). Now, if there is some reason (or his ego) that he won't agree to it then he needs to 'hit the bricks'. I believe Chizik could revamp that unit and help put them in situations where they would at least have a chance to be successful, and because of where we are in the schedule we could put an entirely "new" unit on the field by October 1st at South Carolina. After all......what do we have to lose? I'm 44 years old and I seriously cannot recall a 2-3 year stretch where our defense was this bad, unless it was the mid 70's near the end for Shug or late 70's under Doug Barfield. And even though it might sound rash to make this move after only the third game of the year, we simply cannot continue on the road we're on and wait to make the move after the season's end.
There are still nine(9) games left to play......at a minimum....so there is still a very good chance we could turn things around and begin to play real 'Auburn DEFENSE' before traveling to LSU on 10/22. If we do not make a dramatic turnaround by then we will not only be thoroughly beaten in front of a national ESPN TV audience, but we'll get embarrassed. So, come on coach Chiz.....you know what has to be done.

CTR has failed to coach fundamentals for three years now. He might as well be the one missing tackles and blowing assignments.
The blame starts and ends with coach Ted Roof.

Coaching is like teaching. If at the end of the day 50% of the class fails, you didn't coach/teach right. You can't climb on your pedestal and blame it on the students/players.

You are right, but..... Position coaches run the tackling drills. Position coaches teach things like getting off blocks and coverage techniques.

If it was all Roof then we would not be missing Rocker this year, but we obviously are missing Rocker because position coaches teach the fundamentals.

Anyone notice how much better our WR are under Taylor than they were under Knox? Position coaches.

This problem is bigger than Roof.

  • #2 was completely uncovered on his last touchdown. (Which was a 3rd down, of course). We completely ignored him after he had beaten us on 3rd down several times before. Our defensive strategy was Ill conceived and unresponsive. Roof did not even give our kids to male plays. We are not talking about a "bad game" we are talking about 600 yards against an ACC team. We can find somebody better.
