Who's happy if..

  • We get Louis/Darby in what seems to be a package deal for the two of them. We whiff on Young and Kozan but get Diamond at o-line. At receiver we whiff on Patterson and Diggs but get Jordan Moore and the aforementioned Louis. We whiff on Goldman, Armstead, and possibly now even Leonard Williams, so sayeth the FSU mods. We do however get Kwon Alexander at LB, but Bush stays with Miami. Finally we sign Beniquez Brown to have go at rb, and possibly another player under the radar. That puts us at 23, only 2 short, with one five star, double digit fours, and a lot of really solid threes. Close to top 10, say 12-14.

Given this scenario, how is everyone feeling for our first full post-2010-NC class? We closed super strong in the final month last year so one could argue with received a more immediate bump than many recent national champions have (the full benefits are usually recognized the following year), but did everyone expect possibly a stronger finish even up until say, a week or week and a half ago?

Personally, I did expect perhaps a bit more as we sat in the top 5 with close to the same number of commits in November, but it will still be a strong class full of great kids and will help us toward replenishing the full 85 that Tuberville left lacking.

What do some of the more informed opinions than my own have to say on the matter? WDE guys.

  • I would be ok with a class like that, not because I am settling. I just believe the coaches will get who we need to get. They missed prospects and the makes will balance out.

I agree with PM. The media spin of our national championship did not hurt us but probably prevented a bump in recruiting. Add the reality of youth on our team. We can't sell playing time like we did the last couple of years.

Ultimately I believe we will finish strong. On the edge of the top 8, maybe as low as 12. Possibly as high as 6.

It is not in any way shape or form a package deal with Ricardo Louis and Ronald Darby. They know each other and they're friends but they're not definitely set on going to the same school. They may end up at the same school but that's not a given by any means.

  • I dont think thats a bad observation. I would be happy with those guys what everyone seems to overlook is we really do have alot of talent in this class already committed. But i will disagree with you on one thing i could be wrong but i just feel like diggs will be a good guy come fall. In all honesty i dont see a top five class but in my opinion with all the updates i see us possibly getting louis back, Darby, Alexander, Diggs, Moore, Benquiz Brown, and i also think Leonard Williams but i guess we will see.i also know we will sign another lineman but i just dont have confidence in them right now so im hoping for a good one. But i would be proud of this class as i would be for any of recruiting classes. Good Post WDE!!!

  • I'm ecstatic because it is a possibility out there that we could get none of them. So if we got those on NSD, yeah, I'm pumped.

    Here goes nothin-

I would be happy with any class that is full of kids that WANT to come to AU. Thats it. I would be happy as a clam.

No I didn't mean an official package deal or anything. There has been talk that Darby told Louis he would end up at FSU with him if he stayed, and I was more just referencing the fact that they're good friends as you said. Personally I do believe that if Louis switches back to Auburn we will also land Darby- not implying any causation, just a hunch.

  • If we do not add 2 more legitimate SEC DL's and 2 more legitimate SEC OL's, I will not be satisfied with this class. I like the commitments we have so far, but I always judge a recruiting class based on the linemen.

Agree wholeheartedly. We can't afford an off cycle on the lines in this league, as tough as it is right now.

I agree with what all of you are saying about the lines. However, Nero is now a consensus 4 star, and is top 100 on a couple of sites, so he could be a stud. Wright and Whittaker will hopefully live up to their billing and get some strong support from Blackson and Carter (and thats not even taking into account the DE's, which admittedly do need a lot of help on Eguae's side- please Leonard Williams, please!), so I can't quite right the entire class off if we don't get another two studs, because asking for a twosome out of Armstead/Goldman/Williams is gonna be a tough get. Even not getting another at all, saying for a second we don't get Williams, won't cause me to write things off entirely, but you're right in saying it'll be a painful blow. On the o-line we're definitely stacked after last year and seem to have a couple bosses already enrolled on campus, but adding two of the three of Young/Diamond/Kozan would be a nice base of future depth. However things fall we should still be making good progress for the future, but its certainly easy to get a bit antsy when looking at whats going on over at Bama. WDE guys, get ready for a wild final week.
