Where did Auburn get all these Pecksniffian Fans?

  • I think Coach Petrino deserves a chance to show the country that Auburn should have hired him in 2003. I want a coach who can get the best out of his players and score some points. Auburn has shown it can get great talent, but has not been able to find someone who can get the best from them.
I not going to be Pecksniffian when it comes to my choice for Auburn's next head coach.

  • Oh goodie. Thread #4000 on hiring Petrino. At least this one has a three dollar word in it.

If that is the case, then I am to assume that CBP has about 3800 more posts for his hiring than all the other candidates combined. Who do you want for a head coach your Pecksniffian-ness? Billy Graham? The Pope? John Ed Mathisson?

Nope, don't want any of those. I do one someone who at least a degree of integrity. petrino doesn't fit that bill. Asking for a coach who has proven his integrity is not being "holier than thou."

  • Let's put thing into perpective....Apple stock is about $500 a share. If you could buy Apple today at $250 a share, would you? Of course you would. Point being: you're can get a $4 million proven SEC coach for about $2 million a year......right now. What would you not make the buy?

I didn't opine about CBP, wanting or not wanting him. I simply observed that this is yet another thread about the same old tired issue. The fact that you are obviously proud of your new word doesn't change that.

I want a coach that day one does not have half of the fanbase (probably more from the many people I talk to about potential coaches) against him the day he starts. You can say all you want about Petrino's potential as an offensive mind but starting out with a divided fan base like we did with Barfield and Chizik is just more ammunition for potential failure. There is a long list of coaches that were good on the field but left a trail behind them everywhere they went and left each program in shambles when there days were over.

See: Jackie Sherrell, Lou Holtz, Coach Fran at Alabama, Petrino, even Lane Kiffin. etc. etc.

They all were talented coaches on the field and all had "questionable issues" in other areas of management that eventually caught up to them and in most cases left the schools in trouble. Same pattern.

And not wanting the (by far) best coach available when he falls into your lap for a discounted price is why Auburn will never be the program it could and should be.

Oh well, here's to years of 8-5/9-4 seasons and challenging for SEC titles once every 7-8 years. War CreeD Eagle!

Both of your posts are short-sighted.

    In what way?

Giving a second chance to an elite talent that made mistakes at a previous institution lead to redemption stories of a guy who, while determined to rewrite his legacy, lead us to the greatest season in our history.

Bobby would be determined to rewrite his legacy in the same way, he could be locked down with all kinds of behavior incentives and buyouts, and he would take us to new heights.

I'm with you. To not give him a BP a chance is turning down a great opportunity. Those who say that we should not hire him is the one's being short-sighted. I'm willing to put some money where my mouth is for this cause. Anyone else ready to do the same for their selection? Heck, it's easy to SAY that coach "who-ever else" is the best selection when you don't have anything to lose.

We already came out of nowhere to win the BCS, a consensus national championship and a perfect 14-0 season and our QB won just about every award available. How could we possibly have a greater season than that?
