I saw on another board that his term was up in June. I don't think that is the case, but I'm curious if anybody knows how many more years he plans to be the president? Hopefully the next president will give a rip about athletics.

One, a university president, unlike the trustees, doesn't have a term. Two, you have no freaking clue of what you are talking about. Jay Gogue is the best president this university has had, and that is definitely true for the time period, starting 2001. Would you prefer to have William Walker again, who got into a pissing match with SACS, nearly getting Auburn's accreditation pulled and then got on the plane to Louisville to attempt to hire the "Red-headed Road Rash?" Or how about Ed Richardson, who is an example of Peter Principle if I've ever seen one, who hired Jay Jacobs as Athletic Director in the first place, and vetoed Hal Baird, when he was the interim athletics director, twice, leading to the Lebo and Slater hires? Anyone who wants that is dumber than a sack of rocks.

Chill with the name calling. Couldn't you get your point across without being so hostile? You have some very good points in there but being so hostile makes people not care about your points and just be on the defensive.

So you're saying there aren't any more qualified people than Gouge, Walker, or Richardson. Kind of a limited pool don't you think?
Also, I didn't realize Auburn was founded in 2001.

Which names did you take exception to? Bobby Petrino as "Red-headed Road Rash"? Ed Richardson as "an example of Peter Principle"? Granted the "dumber than a sack of rocks" comment was a little over the top, but anyone who is not ignorant of the circumstances of those times would not want to go back to that.

No reason to be a smartass, you know what I meant. I can't speak to Muse's term because I wasn't privy to the details of that time. However, I can say with supreme confidence that we screwed the pooch big time when Walker moved into the president's mansion.

The issue I have with Jay Gogue is that it seems that he believes that the of president of a major university's sole duty is academics. The president of a university is over everything that comprises that unversity, whether it be academics, athletics, student government etc. It seems that he does not place a great amount of importance on athletics. What is ironic is that academics and athletics are directly related. What do you think funds our academic programs? I'm not going to start a discussion on the economics of Auburn University, but it is of my opinion that Jay Gogue has done a less than stellar job of managing the athletics program. He may be great in the area of academics, but his responsibility is not just academics.

So attacking a poster made you feel better? Most of what you said comes off as you trying to be a
. It's a message board lots of people have differing opinions. No need to be a prick about it because you obviously have a different opinion. It makes posters not want to see your point and just start getting in defensive mode and not listen to what you have to say.

Athletics and academics are completely separate and self-sufficient enterprises, as far as money is concerned. And just because you don't see it, doesn't mean he isn't putting emphasis on athletics. It's his job to evaluate and determine the status of the athletics director, which he has been doing. A good leader, as has been said on this board...and I actually agree with, criticizes in private and praises in public, just because you don't see the criticism, doesn't mean it isn't being done. I can assure that Jay Jacobs isn't feeling so comfortably secure in his position as he was in August.

You're assuming alot. PM has said several times that Jay Gogue does not want to fire JJ and that he does not anticipate a change being made. It sounds to me like JJ has already been evaluated and the president thinks he's doing an adequate job, even though we are at the bottom in all the major sports programs. If he was such a "good leader" like you insinuate, he would have gotten rid of JJ when GC was fired. I don't think that he puts much emphasis on sports because of what I have read here and on other sites. You can assure that JJ isn't feeling so comfortably secure in his position as he was in August? Do you have an inside source or are you making more assumptions. From what I read, from credible sources, JJ is feeling no pressure at all.

Seriously, what in the hell did I do to arouse your moral outrage? I have been replied to like this and worse on here before and no one said one thing to the "offending" poster. If you took offense to me telling the OP that I thought he didn't know what he was talking about, that's because it was my honest assessment and I still believe myself to be correct in that regard. If makes me a prick, oh freaking well, I'm a prick.

When is Jay Gouge supposed to retire?
