1970 LSU vs Auburn in Auburn - sat in the new north end zone stands that made JHS a complete bowl with my Dad to watch Pat Sullivan, Terry Beasley and the Tigers get shut down by LSU's defense and the torrential rains that turned the turf into mud.

Auburn fumbled the first snap of the game, LSU recovered and Auburn never got back in the game until late. Bert Jones led LSU to two early scores and a botched extra point that ended up being a 2 pt conversion to win 17 - 9. LSU even sacked Sullivan in the end zone for a safety.

Auburn managed only 3 FGs that day, an offense that had been averaging 35 pts a game before that.

It was a great game though as Auburn never gave up and after the rain stopped late in the 4th QTR, the sun came out and Sullivan drove Auburn to a first and goal at the LSU 8 yd line. On fourth and goal from the 3, FB Wallace Clark was stopped at the goal line and LSU hung on for the win. That was the first time LSU had played at JHS in over 60 years or so.

Actually, we wore the orange jerseys the whole game (wore blue for warm-ups and then changed for kick-off). You're very right about the blown call at the end of the first half. No question Andrews scored; the official who made the call was between the 15 and 20 yard line and placed the ball an inch or two from the goal line.

My first was the 1970 LSU game; the only time the rain at Jordan-Hare that rivaled the 2009 West Virginia game. The water was so deep the players were standing on the benches. Pat Sullivan later said that on a dry field we would have beaten them by 20 points. We lost 9 - 17.

I think that was Ben Obamanu who dropped that 4th and goal pass. i was one of the fans that jumped up and down and then the guy next to me says "he dropped it". Ugh!!

1989 Iron Bowl, I was less than year old and my parents said they would not miss that game so they took me with them.
