What are yall's thoughts on Pat Miller?

  • It sounds like he has a very bright future for AU. Do yall think the coaches were hoping it wouldn't have come so soon? What I mean is...starting spring practice Slade was at RT, but later switched to guard and P. Miller took over the 1st string RT spot. I'm pretty sure the coaches were hoping Slade would take over the RT spot and either E. Mack or Westerman would have taken over the guard spot. I know P. Miller has great talent, but I just don't think even with 4 months to go he will be ready physically for some of the best D Lines in the country. Do yall think the promotion of P. Miller was due to him being so much further along, or do you think we had to move Slade over because the guards weren't getting it done?

Breaking in a new QB, RB, and new offensive system we need good line play this year especially. I wont lie, I'm a bit discouraged that Slade had to move over and we have a true freshmen who is undersized starting at one of the most critical OL spots. What are yall thoughts?

  • I think the coaches like his toughness and they know he could contribute is some capacity. He will have a chance to compete as the starting Right Tackle. However, I do not think that he will be the man this year. He needs at least one good year of Coach yox under his belt, like Robinson and Westerman before he is ready to take over. I believe the coaches are getting him in the right frame of mind going into the summer to get him as ready as possible.

  • I think they wanted to see how Miller would do since slade can play both tackle and guard. They would like to have the best players on the field so they are probably just testing out different roations to see what works best. I think westerman/mack should play though they seem to have had good springs as well and I just think it would be better to maybe redshirt westerman, let him mature physically and let him play next year. Everyone seemed to think robinson was ready last year, but we played aj greene who wasn't an overly impressive left tackle to say the least. but we will see where the line is at the end of august, keep the competition going

I think per what the coaches are saying in interviews he has a long way to go. From what I saw of him at the A game I think he will need some time. I think this was an opportunity to put the young guys at different positions. I wouldn't think this was any indication of where they will end up in the fall. I think the 2 freshmen that came early have a definite advantage for getting in the rotation in the fall.

  • Not sure how ready he truly is now, or 4-months from now...but I think his play obviously has not gone unnoticed by the coaches. Who knows if he really projects as a legitimate contender to start at this point, or if he is seriously challenging for considerable PT. Maybe CJG is sending a very-real message to the other guys...one that ensures that they know that no one is going to be given a job, regardless of how long you've been here. Either way, I think that young Mr Miller projects as a sure-fire stud OT in the making! Competition usually brings out the best, and with the way that our staff has recruited
    O-linemen, I'd say we'll be dominant very-soon! WAR EAGLE!!!
