What About Ladarius Phillips? Big back?

I know they've talked about him as a D-lineman... but wasn't he recruited as a running back?

He was recruited as a Linebacker I believe

Recruited as a RB. Practiced some at DT prior to the BCS game. Unknown what he'll play at this point.

Grab this off Rivals list of last year Fullback recruits. I was wrong. I was so sure he was a linebacker? I must be losing my mind.

If you saw him in HS or looked at the videos he's a RB, good feet, good balance and nice hands. At 265 he'd be a force. I've seen him do a standing back flip like a cheerleader. Don't discount this guy. if he gets his shoulders squared up he's a load to tackle.

As I recall, Phillips was a late and our last addition to the 2010 class. The coaches held out hope that they would have a scholarship be because he was such an athletic big guy. Given our history with such guys, I think they saw several developmental possibilities for him. They did commit to giving him a shot at RB and did so until he was injured in fall practice. Will be interesting to see where he goes. Kind of reminds me of a Demarco Mcneal type.

LP played in 2A football. Sure, he's nimble enough to play as a 260 RB against guys he outweighed by 30-50 pounds and can't run a 5.0 forty. That doesn't happen in the SEC.
He was up to 290 by the BCS champ. game practices.
Unless he can get back down to 260 (or less) and play behind Eric Smith as a blocking back, he's slated for a DT position.
He's not going to be an every down RB , or even "short-yardage specialist" like people dream.

With some guys, weight gain means you are not working-out like you should. With this guy, I think him working out, because of his body type, will be conducive to adding additional weight. That being said, he is never going to be an NFL RB. I would think a DT would be his best option. He has the feet, likes to hit, and is obviously fast off the ball. Those are lethal combination's at DT. That's how you go high in the draft.

It was 4A football by the way. Handley High. Just went down to 3A this past season but they've always skirted the 3A-4A line

Not LB, kid is @ 290, maybe DL or RB.
