VIDEO: Auburn tackling 101 (vs Georgia)

  • This play pretty much sums it up.

My intention is not to pick on specific players, but unfortunately McNeal and Bates are the examples in this play.

But they aren't alone....this is pretty much how Auburn has tackled, as a team, ever since Bynes, Stevens, Clayton, Fairley, Carter, Goggans, McNeil, and Savage left (and several of them weren't that great either).

Was that the 62 yd td or the 22 yd run on 3rd and 20? Either way, we don't even arm tackle. We just duck our heads and hope we hit something other than Air.

  • That was the 22 yarder. The long TD run would come a little later.

I was texting with a friend that's a Georgia fan, but I was watching on DVR, so I was about an hour behind. He said something about an upcoming play that was pitiful....when I saw this, I assumed it was what he was talking about. Little did I know it would be repeated about 15 minutes later on a long TD run.

The saddest part? It didn't really bother me too much...as it's what I've come to expect. So when I saw it, I was like, "yep, that seems about right".

  • I've said it numerous times since the whole coaching search topic has been alive on this board the past month...We have got to get a coach that has a solid defensive background with a proven track record of winning with good defense. Chizik had the defensive background but not the winning track record. Defense comes first and is how we will win in this conference and anywhere for that matter. Florida is doing it right now. In his second year, Muschamp has that team playing elite defense and is winning a lot of games despite having a good offense. Once they establish a good offense then Florida will become down right deadly.

I have a feeling that whoever our next coach is will be disgusted with the fundamentals and poor habits of the this current team when it comes to tackling and blocking during his first evalutations and spring practice. It will probably be a very similar situation to when Paul Rhodes took over for Chizik at Iowa St. Makes me sick... Anyways thanks for the post and I always enjoy reading what you have to say, jadennis.

Terrible. I'm just glad they both didn't break their necks
