Tuiasosopo = girlfriend

  • Shelley Smith reports that the Tuiasosopo kid admits to being the girl friend, along with two of his cousins (man and woman).

    Apparently they've done it before to other people, using the same name. They consider it a "sport" and just have fun with it.

    I'm thinking they should be...shot? Is that too strong?

    Yea I have a hard time believing these new developments. Supposedly it "was a game and then got serious", what incentive would that kid have to put more effort into this hoax instead of telling Te'o before it got to this point? It just seems like a long period of time to keep that up. In the video interviews it seems like the cousins are making an effort to push specific details instead of naturally answering the questions, like they are worried about getting a certain story right.

  • Manti still needs to explain why he and his father told multiple stories about them meeting and holding hands and visiting each other in Hawaii.

    I still believe this was just Manti's cover for being gay and he let it go too far. He's a Mormon football player at a Catholic school. His long distance relationship was a perfect cover for him to be able to turn down every dime at Notre dame trying to get in his pants.

    I'm sure we will all find out the truth soon, whatever it may be.

    I thought the "gay" explanation was the best as well, but apparently he's had some teammates come out and say he definitely isn't gay, and that he was "having fun being Manti" at times...cheating on his fake GF. Of course, not way to know if that's true either.

    The other explanation for those lies could be simple embarrassment. If you're a 20 year old football rock star, it's not very cool to be "dating" a girl you have never actually seen. I could see Manti just making up a few meetings so that things aren't so weird and he isn't made fun of. He could easily have told the lie to his own dad, and of course to everyone else. That would also explain the lie about having met her on the field after a game in 2009. Pure embarrassment.

    Not saying that's what happened, but it's plausible for a 20 year old football player.

    Why? ESPN doesn't have much of a relationship with Notre Dame (they are all NBC).

    They sure didn't hold back on reporting anything regarding Cam or Ohio State or Michigan or Oregon or Duke lacrosse, all of which ESPN has much more of a relationship with than the Irish.

    They also had the deadspin story scrolling across the bottom of the screen for like 48 hours, even during the Swarbrick press conference.

    ESPN will go to great lengths to get ratings and web hits. That's who they care about...themselves.

    If espn tries to spin this for some agenda, they have to be crucified for it. There have to be consequences for the shoddy journalism we are getting today. The direction that journalism is going is not good for this country. There has to be a tipping point at which the public demands to be fed facts and the whole story without agenda. I never dreamed that in my lifetime I'd choose a news provider based on my political leanings. Where is the journalist that just shoots straight and gives you the true, whole story regardless of who the casulties are? (other than PM, of course)
