Trooper Taylor

  • Chizik has called out his receviers a little bit , saying they need to step up , "grow up" as he put it. Is it also time to maybe question Trooper Taylor? If there is one group that has underachieved over the Iast few years it is the receivers. Can some of that be laid at the feet of TT? He has had the talent, at least if you go by rankings, but little to show for it. I realize you have to have a QB that can get the ball to them but that goes both ways, having a group that can get open to help the QBs. I know everyone loves Troop but he needs to get his guys to step up and perform and show some results. If not will Loeffler put any pressure on Chizik to get rid of TT so he can get "one of his guys" in there?

  • I would hate to lose Troop. I do however wonder about our WR production.

So get rid of the man who is almost solely responsible for the great recruiting since Chizik has been here??????????
    Good grief.

  • Not necessarily get rid of him but get a better WR coach

  • Its not the WR, if you look at instant replay on alot of the plays, Someone is open Majority of the time, Its KF not looking at all of his options, and some of the time there is not going to be someone open. but to say Trooper is at fault is crazy, we havent had a QB that can go through progressions fast enough before he gets sacked or throws the ball away. Even when CAM was QB, alot of the time we had WR open and he ran anyway, but he was just that good. WDE.

  • I think there is at least a little something to it if Chizik is saying it, but I also think he's maybe trying to take some heat off of Kiehl.

Trooper doesn't have a lot to work with when we are completing 10-12 passes per game. And that's not just this year, that is last year too. We averaged 12 completions all of last year, and we're averaging exactly 12 this year. Give Blake and Lutz a handful of catches each, then give a couple to Bray or Reed, and what's left?

How are we supposed to hold the receivers accountable for production when they are dividing up 12 catches among 4 or 5 guys?

Like others in the thread have said....rewind plays on Saturday and watch down field and see if guys are open. I don't mean "Pop Warner" open, where a guy is running free 15 yards from anyone else....I mean "SEC" open where the receiver is just trying to create a little separation....sometimes down field, sometimes across the field, but sometimes only for a couple seconds.

I think if you watch replays in slow motion, you'll see open receivers. Of course not always, and they aren't necessarily always in the right place at the right time, I'm sure that's true. But we don't often see Frazier slinging a ball to a spot only to have the receiver in the wrong place. What we see too much of is the ball simply not being thrown at all on any of the timing routes and routes where a guy gets separation for a moment or two.

In 2009 and 2010, when we had quarterbacks that could get the ball out there, we didn't have a receiver problem. Darvin, Zachery, Lutz, and Blake were all very productive (along with Fannin and McCalebb).

Anyway, I'm no one when it comes to knowing who's at fault on pass plays that go nowhere. But I do know that at Tennessee, Oklahoma State, and the two years we had a decent or great quarterback, Trooper's receivers have not been a problem. It's just hard for me to think that all of the sudden he can't coach his guys and they are all busts from a recruiting standpoint. If Coate's missed catch was happening 4 or 5 times a game I'd understand.

While they shoulder some responsibility for sure, I think the bulk of it is on the QB to get these guys the ball on time more frequently.

Again, I'm no one when it comes to evaluating this stuff....it's just my opinion.

PS. For what it's worth, I trust Kiehl can get it done....just seems like he has to trust himself more to make the play and not hesitate so much.

I would take 20 TDs and 20 INTs if it meant he was making plays and being aggressive. It'll make him better for next year if he just lets himself go and plays off instinct instead of fear.

  • Trooper's job is to coach them to get open, catch the ball, and block. The WRs have done a pretty good job of all three of these this year.

What Trooper is not responsible for is getting the QB to hit/find the open WRs, which hasn't happened too much this year.

Can't pin any of that on Trooper.

Turst is what KF needs. Trust in himself. trust in the WRs and trust in his Oline. As of right now he is missing the main one. Trust in himself. The oline has done its job. the WRs are doing their jobs to the point that we can point to specific misses on balls the either should have been caught or the WR should have known where he was. And they are blocking decent to pretty well.

KF- trust in your skills and trust in yourself. It will turn into great play! I promise!

P.S- I will say this. There are times I wish we had a gun slingin reckless dude like Farve or Mallett. They may make mistakes but they get the ball out and when they dont get ints they get TDs.

I can't really agree with you. Auburn's receivers played well in 2009 and 2010. 2011 and 2012 have not had a QB who could deliver the throws. I would like to see better down field blocking. OMac was a couple of held blocks from taking it to the house against LSU.
