  • The kid commits early to avoid the stress and now it's thicker than ever. Good luck Trey and we hope you come here for the school, community and not for any other reason.

  • Bryan whats your feeling on where he ends up?

  • thanks for doing your job well, Bryan. we're all very eager to see what the new coaches are going to be able to do with the recruting class, and these interviews help shed light on what's happening.

  • I like coach Johnsons verbage and honesty, "if that ship has sailed, just let us know". I agree because if there is no hope with Trey, coach Johnson isnt wasting any more time with him and focus on others. I do feel for Trey also because he was mature enough to commit early to avoid all the hoopla and now he's right back at square one. I pray he takes his time and comes back around to the plains.

  • Personally I like this kid more than Foster. Don't get me wrong I would love to get Foster, but with Toney also strongly committed I think Trey would be the better pick up for this Defense.

  • The way that most everyone that is not an early enrollee is expected to legally commit on NSD is problematic. NSD is suppose to be the first day that a recruit can legally commit and the period extends over weeks. But the rush to get them all in over the first few hours that they can puts too much pressure on the process and causes it to implode to some degree. The process needs the weeks that is in the process but not used.

Maybe they need to rework the rules so that only so many can legally commit each day/week over the signing period to get some order into the process? That could take some of the pressure off and allow some that need to to get a handle on what is going on.

  • We need a ton of defensive help. Hopefully our new coaches will be able to convey that message to recruits. If they saw any of our games this year that fact should be readily apparent. It sure would help for CGM and CEJ to hire the rest of the assistants quickly, especially the LB, RB, DL and WR coaches.

  • He seems much more mature and consistent than another of our LB recruits. I really hope we get him back into the fold.

  • Well, I think you can say one thing - we'll be much better in the future than 3-9. Recruits will see that AU is a rising program now.

  • I look for him to warm up to the new coaches this staff has got plenty of good to offer them and I'm not talking money, the opportunity to be on a team that is rebuilt and well on the way to becoming a force to be reckoned with. Look out SEC we're building a new empire one that will get double takes and triple takes with the skill level we will show on the field (i believe)

it could all stop by him coming out and saying he is still committed to AU.

Yeah. I'm a little confused here. Is he facing a tough decision about whether to recommit to AU or is he facing a tough decision about whether he's going to allow Gus to recruit him? That's what it sounds like and that's just weird.

He is making a decision on whether or not he is still interested in AU recruiting him aka whether we are in the game or not. It was a fair question for Gus and Ellis to ask because no point in wasting time recruiting him if we aren't even in the game. And no point in him being bugged by us if he is no longer interested.

I don't understand comments like yours saying that it is just weird.

There is nothing weird about it. He was initially committed to Roof, then got over that, then the staff was fired, then he decommitted. Things changed and years of relationships he built were removed.

I swear when it comes to recruiting people seem to throw common sense out the window. Nothing strange about this. If he still likes AU and is considering it, he'll let the new coaches know and they can start to build a relationship with him and hopefully get his signature.

  • Well the fact he met with the coaches to begin with is a great sign(imo) and the first step in bringing him back in the fold.

Who said it was an agonizing decision? Your injecting drama here. Read the article. His high school coach said he committed 2 years ago so he could avoid the onslaught of late hour recruiting that he ironically is now enduring.

Heaven forbid this kid step back and re-evaluate the situation after the coaches he has been committed to for years were just shown the door. I can't believe it. Who would think somebody capable of such a thing?(cue sarcasm).

Most of the time when a kid decommits he is done with that school so no shock our new coaches are feeling him out.

It sounds like he is still interested in AU and very promising that he hosted both our coaches to see what they had to say. So now he decides if he likes what he hears about our direction/philosophy/new staff and wants to get to know them better(aka being recruited).

I just don't get what is so hard to understand about that other than your upset he decommited from 'your' school.

Recruiting is all about relationships. Just be glad he has been in the fold for 2 years and established a bond with the rest of the recruiting class, as they will bring him back into the fold more than anything else.

Even though we have new coaches we aren't starting from ground zero here. I think this recruiting class is going to keep each other in the fold.

  • Well first off headlines are always written to get your attention, so that is some of it, but the other part of it maybe it is a tough decision cause its very likely he wrote AU off when he decommitted.

He only gets X number of official visits and time is running out here to get to know all the programs, which he hasn't been doing by the way since he has been committed so long.

So he's got 2 months and X number of visits so I'm sure it is tough to narrow down your focus.

Familiarity and comfort with AU is definitely a plus for us at this point.

  • Glad these two Johnsons met. I hope we can keep Trey.
