Top newcomers being slept on at Auburn...

  • 1. Devaunte Sigler - athletic freak who was raw coming from B.C. Rain. Kid is a potential monster DE.

    2. Shane Callahan/Jordan Diamond (tie) - both are physically advanced for freshmen; both will battle for starting jobs.

    4. Zeke Pike - kid is huge, mobile and can throw; watch out for him in a "freshman Tim Tebow"-type role for us this year.

    5. Tre Mason - everybody seems to concede the RB job to Blakely... but every time Mason had the football, good things happened. Kid wants to succeed badly and is working his butt off to become a star. I wouldn't bet against this kid.

  • Agree 100% on Sig. I was really impressed with his quickness and speed coming out of high school

I would say after the size Corey Grant has picked up and the 4.24 40 he ran (laser timed apparently too) that he would be the sleeper, not Tre Mason.

  • Does anyone know how Chris Landruim (SP) the LB from Sweet Water that redshirted last year is doing? He comes from a very athletic family, and he maybe the most athletic one of them all. He has the size and skills to be a very good ILB for us. He could be a guy people are sleeping on.

I like the premise of your post.

On Sigler, he will be a star, I think. His best position should be as a DE.

On the true freshmen OL's, I think it's Sullen or Slade, Dismukes, Robinson, Westerman. OReilly may be in the mix if he can get his weight right. In the SEC it's a lot to ask for a true freshman to start on the OL.

I'm going to dissagree with you on Pike. Dont see a role for him. He's a big kid but not overly fast. If we need a running qb, we've got one in Frazier. In my mind though, people are seriously underestimating Mosely. I think he wins the job. The QB in our offense will be a more traditional qb. Our offensive line will be much, much better this year. We will attack the line of scrimmage with a downhill rushing attack and keep the pressure under control by using play action, primarily. I think our offense will look a little like bama's. Physical up front, play action. We've got a lot of guys who have been labled playmakers. All we need our qb to do, is manage the game, make good reads and deliver the ball on time, on target. Mosely is the better choice.

On RB, Mason isn't going to sneak up on anyone. He's a legit talent and so is blakely. But the sleeper is grant. Watching his highlights, he's just freakishly fast on a pretty good frame. At 205-210, with sub 4.3 speed, he's scary. OMAC ironically is the other sleeper. Everyone seems to forget how productive he's been. He will have some holes this year. I predict he'll actually be the featured back.

I'll add Ladarious Owens, he is going to be a monster at DE, both he and Lemonier are quick like cats, and are going to rein on 3rd downs
