To keep CTT or not?

  • Long term, what is the best option? I believe in the short term he's the best way to keep this class together, but can CGM have full control with him around? I'm not sure.

    definitely keep!

Many around here don't like him because he wears his hat around backwards and chest bumps players though.

The hat deal is out of respect and in memory of his father who wore his that way. I can respect that. As for as the chest bumps and towel, it's not much different from Muschamp sideline antics which most of us loved and hated to see him leave. Besides, every team needs a coach that can keep the emotional adrenalin flowing. My biggest concern is that CTT and the others have forgotten that there is one key ingredient that is more important than recruiting and firing up emotions... actual teaching and coaching up players. I haven't seen a lot of that since Tuberville left.

Yes, Greg Knox was a fine coach [/sarcasm]

  • I am torn on this decision about whether or not to keep Trooper. On one hand, I know he has great relationships with the players and recruits but to be honest I am not so sure about his coaching. What have our receivers done other than Emory Blake, and let's face it, Emory did not need a coach really. I feel like we will lose recruits but I think it may be best to get rid of him in the long run and looking at the bigger picture. I do not think he is good for player's attitudes and their development. I am still disturbed by that stunt he pulled during the Mississippi State game. I don't care if he thought he was right or not; you don't pull stunts like that on the head coach. I doubt very seriously he would have ever seen another day of employment if he would have pulled that on some other head coaches.

  • Do we want to keep him? Oh, I like his energy and recruiting skills, and he is fun to listen to, but what has he accomplished as the WR coach? My perception is that he has done a pretty poor job developing talent. How many busts have we had at receiver over the past few years?

Maybe it's bad quarterback play, bad talent, bad luck or something else. I just don't think he has a lot to show for his tenure at AU.

I agree that at the end of Tuberville's time, it was more of a joke, but in 04 - 07 we had some pretty good defenses using mostly 3 star players. Remember, Sen'Derrick Marks was a 2. Somebody was sure coaching up these players.

Those guys were a lot better coaches than some folks will admit. There's more than one of them that I'd love to have back.
