  • How about doing a study on the following: Look at high school football commitments and their success in college based on how and when they committed. There are three basic types of commitments that I am interested in. 1. the under the radar type that needs no press conference. 2. the press conference athlete whether it be at a high school or at a star studded bowl game. 3. the at the last minute announcement that occurs within a week of the national signing date including those that must have their announcement a week later.
    I just feel that there is some correlation with the egos being portrayed by these announcement schedules and their performance on the field or lack of it. The situation is really getting out of hand and I get very tired of listening to the excuse that these kids are just having a hard time making a decision. It much more than that. Someone could write a book on the psychology of it.

  • Interesting angle.

    A few years ago, Chizik's first recruiting class I think, we were after two of the nation's highest-rated RB's, Bryce Brown and David Oku. Both waited until after signing day to commit, both went to Tennessee (initially), and both essentially fell off the map, falling far short of expectations considering all the hype around them coming out of high school.

  • Not a bad idea. But one Thig to remember as far as what you expect to find....a lot of really good football players have big egos. So it would be interesting, but we might not find as much difference between the groups as we might think.

    I completely agree . . . and sometimes its a good thing. Some guys, especially on defense, live life like they are the biggest dog in the yard. If they didn't think they were the biggest, best, meanest, toughest kid we've ever seen they wouldn't have made it to where they were. That's what makes them good. Confidence is an important thing in sports. I know some of these kids are egocentric and take it way overboard, and alot of it makes me sick. But, some of the really good ones know that they are the really good ones and that drives them.
