Auburn coach Tony Barbee says it's just another SEC game, but Auburn Arena will be sold out for the first time this season.

  • Barbee coached at UTEP, not TA&M.

  • Thanks Phillip. My Auburn gang will all be at my house going wild.

  • Kentucky actually played Tennessee at Rupp Arena Tuesday night and struggled mightily with them there.

    DAMN RIGHT IT MATTERS !

    Double B

  • This win would be huge for the players' motivation the rest of the season, for the RPI down the road and for the casual Auburn fan to see that the bb team is on the rebound, so to speak.

I was fortunate to be at AU at the same time as Mitchell, Pepto Bolden, Eddie Johnson, Mlles Patrick, Wayne Brace, Gary Redding and Stan Pietkiewicz. I was a freshman in '74 and lived in the Quad so it was easy to just on over to watch a game. We went 12-0 at home and 18-8 for the year and finished 3rd in the SEC. The last game of the season was against uat and it was huge for several reasons, #1 - winning meant we would be undefeated at home; #2 - beating uat at anything is always good but I this win broke a long streak of losing to them (can't remember the number) and they were 22-4 at the time.

Some of you young pups might not realize how big of a feat it was to go undefeated at home but consider this. There was huge talent throughout the SEC that year. UT had the Ernie and Bernie show (Ernie Grunfeld and Bernard King). They finished 3rd in the SEC. Vandy had a kid we called "bird legs" but can't remember his name and they had just come off back to back 20+ game win seasons and went to the sweet sixteen just the year before. They only finished 5th in the league with a 15-11 record that year but beating "Vandy" after the couple of years that they had just had was big. uat finished tied w/ KY for 1st in the SEC and had a record of 22-5. Did I mention how HUGE this win was? Kentucky was well, Kentucky. They had Kevin Grevy, Rick Robey and Jack Givens. Finished tied with uat for 1st in the SEC and went on to play in the title game where they lost to UCLA. Final SEC Standings that year were 1T - KY; 1T - uat; 3T AU; 3T UT; 5 Vandy

So you see that going UNDEFEATED at home that year was BIG, BIG, BIG. Watching what was probably one of the best and most talented from top to bottom AU basketball teams ever was an experience I'll never forget.

Glad you shared, very nice. I wasn't even quite 1 so I don't know any of those names =) I did have the orange and blue diapers on though!!

Where in Indiana? I'll be watching the game at home in Louisville. There are more UK fans than UofL fans here... I can't wait to go in to work next week and rub an AU win in my director's face. rockon

Yeah my wife and I are surrounded by UK fans on the eastern side of the state... Would love it if AU can get the Big W tonight!

We were suppose to go to Louisville today actually. My wife's #6 Syracuse Orange are at the KFC Yum! Center right now battling the #1 Louisville Cardinals... Something came up family wise and we weren't able to go after all... Quite disappointed actually...

Good news is that I will be getting a home cooked meal in between the end of the Syracuse/LouisV game and the beginning of the KY/AU game =) and watching both games from a comfy recliner lol

It's cool you and AUDave and I are all somewhat close in proximity. Any AU clubs in or near Louisville for watching football games together???

    Glad you enjoyed!

Here's an article I found from the Florence Times Daily that was written right after the AU/uat game

    http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1842&dat=19750309&id=UBQsAAAAIBAJ&sjid=ncgEAAAAIBAJ&pg=3598,1452074

I found some other great data on Mike M and other au players on that team but I clicked on the wrong button and lost it all :-( You should look some of them up - all except Fast Eddie Johnson - after spending 10 years in the league, he got kicked out (of the NBA!!) for his drug habit. He was in and out of prison and is a convicted drug pusher, pedophile, rapist that is locked up in prison in Santa Rosa.

Oh, and Ernie Grunfeld who I mentioned played for UT? - he's now GM of the Washington Wizards :-D There was a wealth of talent in the SEC during that time - I enjoyed looking some of them up to see "where are they now". Too bad I lost all of it!!!!
