Don't forget that the 2009 Auburn Tigers lost at home to Kentucky.....KENTUCKY.
The time between college football seasons is a very long time, especially when considering 1) Another year in the system, 2) Another year in the college weight program, 3)Another year of of recuruiting influx.
I feel real good about next year's team.
there is a difference between Kentucky and FAU....
another recruiting class just brings more inexperience.......and excuses
I DO NOT expect us to be in the hunt for a "national championship" next year (national championships do not really exist anyway). I do expect them to be in 2013. I expect next year to be more like 2009 with a couple of more wins. In 2013, look out.
Exactly my point. Don't put alot of stock in how the team does from one year to th next because the team's dynamics can be changed based on the off-season.
As the SEC schedule currently exists, even numbered years are potential championship years. Even if we could field all-stars of 2004 and 2010 together in an odd year, we would be hard-pressed to go undefeated. Odd years ALWAYS see lsu, uga and arky on the road, along with uat at home. Throw in a road game from the east, and it's tough to say the least. This is why we look to mature and rebuild in odd years and make runs in even years. This could all change, pending realignment.
In 2008, as all fell apart, I called the 2010 title. As soon as Cam kissed the crystal, I said, "just wait 'til 2012".
This is just how the Auburn cookie crumbled when the SEC rotation was designed.
As to the improvements necessary to win next year:
Oh, please. We are 4 games into a rebuilding year. This weeks "scrimmage" DID, as someone posted in another thread, look like an A-day game. This is what you are supposed to do with FAU. Sure, it looked awful, but I have read enough previews, reviews and quotes on the FAU tilt to know that AU will look much different next Saturday.
Who knows when the next Nick Fairley, Carlos Rogers or Tracy Rocker will rear his beastly head? When will the next Cam Newton, Jason Campbell or Pat Sullivan arrive? I believe we already have our great RB in Dyer, and Emory Blake is dependable to say the least. We have perhaps the best all around kicker in the game in Parkey, and a sensational return man in Mason.
We have, I believe, only 4 SRs listed at top spots on the depth chart, and I don't see many early draft threats. The only reason to be nervous about 2012 is the shake-up that will likely occur to our coaching staff.

Hating uga since 1892.

I waited 36 years for a consensus national title. Auburn waited 53 years. I can wait one for the next.
For the record: I count 1983, 1993 and 2004 in my book.
Let's say you are a 4 or 5 star recruit. When you get to campus, as a freshman you have a load of potential. But what you don't have is 3 - 4 years in the strength and conditioning program, experience in the offense or defense system, playing time in front of 90,000 people on the road, etc. Let all of our guys add 10 - 15 pounds per year, get faster, get more experience, and we'll be just fine.
