This is my problem with the OC situation....

  • All along CGC has said he has a plan for when CGM left, right? He knew he was a hot coach and would not be at AU much longer "we all did". Way before CGM left Chizik said he has a plan in place for all our coaches if there was a change. Knowing it was likely CGM would be leaving sooner rather than later and there was a plan in place,what has happen to our plan? Really? Two weeks bf signing day and no OC? Could this possibly have been part of the "plan"? I have total faith in our head coach but with that said I'm still a little puzzled.... Unless "our guy" is still in the playoffs?

  • I'm sure that I'm way off on this but I believe it is either an NFL coach still in the playoffs or the coach has already been found and CGC is timing the announcement to bring a tidal wave of excitement to recruiting for the last two weeks before signing day. An announcement too soon would allow the rock star excitement enough time to wear off just enough to let recruits clear their minds and let other schools have an opportunity to develop a new recruiting strategy to combat our new hire. JMHO

    Im picking up what your laying down.. Timing is huge and Chizik is a smart man. I like it, as good as anything else I've heard.

  • I'm convinced it has to be someone still in the playoffs, if not why wait? However I believe your onto something, timing is critical two weeks before signing day. Other programs have used the fact we don't have an OC to lure away or confuse this young minds. Waiting until the right time will gain excitement, and plenty of media exposure especially if it a splash. I can't wait.

    The last sentence (or question in this case) is the reason for the delay. Relax, an announcement may be delayed until after the Super Bowl. It's not ideal, but it's best to hire the right guy.

    I totally agree it is all about getting the right guy. I posted that two days ago on another topic, If it cost a couple of recruits to wait and get the right guy then its well worth it. I was just simply putting it out there abt the "plan" if CGM left. Things change and I understand that, certanily in the coaching world. But as much as it was asked abt "what if CGM left" and we were told many times I have a plan if that happens and six weeks later, two weeks bf singing day we still have no OC I thought It was a logit topic. Some folks (not you) are a little to sensitive. I just don't think things went as planned, or we wld already have an OC!! That's all huricaine....

  • there is another way to look at it. Chiz did have a plan and one specific person in mind. however that person being bound with his team until their season is over has prevented announcements. This is what most people feel but brings in the "one guy" scenario into more clarity.

    Well stated. This is the exact same reasoning I've used as far as what seems to be going on. Like you, I can't get past him smuggly saying how he "always" has a plan.... a contingency so that he's not caught flat-footed if a coach/coordinator leaves. It's approaching 40 days now since Gus officially announced he was hittin' the bricks, and anyone with any sense knew all year long this would likely be his final season at AU. Boy, if these 5+ weeks of NOTHING is part of the "plan", and he smacks it out of the park later this weekend then I will admit I was wrong for wavering.
    I guess my biggest problem with this whole thing was him making such a big deal about 'having a plan' yet here we sit. Maybe he'll pull a 'Mal Moore' when he hired Spanky. For two weeks he couldn't GIVE that job away. Rich Rod accepts then backs out. Just when they are destined to settle for some G.A. from UT-Chattanooga or the like, Rumpelstiltskin falls in their lap.

  • Chizik said he had a plan. I have no doubt that he has a plan. He knows what kind of offense he wants to run and he's finding the perfect guy to run it.

  • Chizik has a plan for everything and we need to trust him to work his plan. He has not failed us yet. He has done everything he has been asked to do other than include all of us in his decisions on who to hire and who to recruit. He has us in the top two for 5, five star recruits. He knows what he is doing and we need to be more patient. I personally think he is going to hire a 5 star OC. Trust the Chiz........

    This has been my same theory also. Big splash with momentum til signing day. At least I hope that's what's going on. Coach Chiz knows what he's doing. Go get em boys!! War Eagle!!
