The state of the Auburn program?

  • I don't mean to be a negative nelly, but I expect more than what we have seen this year. Of course the football season speaks for itself, but the basketball team looks to be headed back to the cellar as well as the women's team. This is starting to become commonplace. I'm sick of our programs being noncompetitive in the SEC and in the nation. The overall production in football, basketball (men's and women's), and baseball has been poor. I don't think that anybody could describe it as anything else. My question is, when is Jay Jacobs going to be held accountable for the poor production in our sports program? We have the worst football season in over 60 year with the other 2 big programs at the bottom and he feels no pressure. I can't understand how we continue to be at the bottom of the SEC and their is no pressure put on the AD. From everything that I have read and heard, Jay seems to be a good man with strong faith. I respect him for that, however, just like Gene Chizik, he was not hired to be a good christian man. He was hired to produce positive results. In my opinion, we are not seeing those results.

  • I realize you have only been here for one month, but this has been beaten to death about JJ. Everyone thinks he is a terrible AD!

  • The football season still seems like some drug induced haze that never happened, but football and basketball in the SEC are 2 different levels. With our state of the art arena and what I think is big coaching money I was expecting some kind of post season. I am gonna chalk up the uat loss to Coach Flo's first time around, we may not think it's big when the girls b-ball teams play but those young ladies take it serious. If every athlete at AU played as hard #3 on the girls team I would like our chances against anyone, that girl is amazing to watch.

    Today is a great day to love Auburn, a little better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

  • I think Gus will be a good and very good hire. He might even be great one day I'm not sure. That said, it doesn't absolve JJ from anything. He's terrible and he needs to go yesterday. I am not willing to buy into this idea he's such a great man either. If he was, he wouldn't have been lobbying to keep his job the same way Jackson did during this whole fiasco. I can't stand him and he represents everything that Auburn is doing wrong right now in terms of athletics outside of new facilities. Yet even with the new facilities, we have absolutely nothing to show for it right now.

    I agree Coach Barbee is not earning his 1.5 million per year. I don't see marked improvement on the basic fundamentals of the game. I do see player movement but without purpose.

    For the ladies I still have confidence she can turn the program around but It sure looks like they've regressed too. But, It is after all her first year. It's Coach Barbee's 3rd?

    And baseball doesn't seem to be moving forward either. If we don't see improvement there This year then think we need to move on.

    I am actually excited about Auburn Football. I think we wii end up 7-5 with a chance to be better, but it should be an excited brand of football.

  • Don't get me wrong, Gus was one of my top 2 candidates. I believe he is a good hire. However, with basketball, baseball, and even football there comes a time when we need to start questioning the man that makes the hires. I would say that the majority of the fanbase was not in favor of the Chizik hire. It was a risk and it ended badly. Why does he get a free pass? Would any of us get a free pass if we screwed up royally in our job? Most of us would be given our walking papers. I wish Jay Gogue was my boss.
