The sad video of Darius Philon

  • If you get a chance to see the video of Darius Philon's "signing" ceremony at Vigor H.S, be prepared to see an example of the very worst there is to see in college football recruiting.

Here's a kid that's been manipulated, used,...whatever word you want to use to describe the recruiting ploy of the most ruthless, cold-hearted head football coach in college football. Everything that he has gone through and was put through over the last 18 months as a high-profile college football recruit culminated in confusion, frustration, disillusionment, disappointment, and ultimate sadness.

Here is a kid that had his "dreams" pulled out from under him at the last minute by someone that is worshipped by everyone around him....and he's the only one that really knows it at the time. In the video, you can tell that Philon's trying to reconcile what he wants to do, what he must do, and what others expect him to do. Meanwhile, it's obvious he has no family guidance, no one truly supporting him when he most needs it, including his high school coach, who is also caught up in the rationalization and the defense of a defenseless tactic by a college coach who he will surely see again in ensuing recruiting seasons. Therefore, from a political standpoint, he has to protect his own hide. After all, no one in Alabama high school coaching circles is going to publicly criticize Nick Saban and risk losing his status in the community and likely, at some point, his job.

Darius is a lost soul. To add salt to the wound, he's going off to another program led by a head coach that will also use him.

Sad, sad story...and I wish him the very best. However, this is not likely to end well for him. And, looking back, he will be able to say, regrettably, that it all started with a visit to his home from Nick Saban.

Auburn people feel a deep and passionate responsibility to uphold standards not written on paper, but lived from the heart.

I think the word they use is "processed" then there is something about how it's the SEC's fault followed by a RMFT.

  • Really sad situation. It is hard to believe the pressure he is under from the people around.

It's Great to be an Auburn Tiger!!! "Life is so much simpler when you tell the truth."

  • Saban still had a victory here. In the end, Philon didn't come to Auburn.

Started with him decomitting from Auburn. I hate it for him because he doesn't seem like a bad kid. Wish him well and all the luck on the field, except for when Arky plays Auburn....then I hope he gets disoriented and spears Bobby Petrino in the ribs.... and then hits him with a chair chairshot
