Curtis Luper and at least two other assistants are still recruiting for Auburn.

Good stuff Coach Luper! You are a class act as well as a great recruiter. Wish the best always.

Sounds like Coach Troop and lup want to stay at Auburn.

Sounds like they are doing the right thing by the players, recruits and Auburn. I am sure they want to stay at Auburn and these guys have a solid chance because of their recruiting ability, to do just that. I am glad they are sticking around to earn the paycheck. Many would just walk out and start looking for the next job. War Eagle Trooper, Thigpen and Luper!

  • Sounds like they are doing the right thing and lets just hope that is what it is. In life, I have found that sometimes what appears right is not always that way. LOL

Hope they are not trying to hide the evidence. I kid

  • Auburn does that to people. They want to stay. When I hear a man that I rspect say complementary things about Jay Jacobs, I take those remarks seriously. They are more impressive to me than some complaint from a person has done nothing to earn respect. Yeah, I know that Jay is Lupers boss, but I also believe that hades will be covered with 15 feet of ice before Luper would suck up to him. Jay Jacobs has a vote of substance from a man of substance.

If you have to ask why I love Auburn so much...never mind

  • Bryan in your opinion is the reputation of Trooper and Luper good among other outside coaches? I believe that there is nothing to the rumors of them and major recruiting issues due to the fact that Auburn is continuing to let them go out and represent the university. They are proven major recruiters so I wonder if one or both might get a serious look from whoever the new coach might be.

  • It is just nice to read about someone doing what they feel is the right thing, just because to them it is the right thing to do. It certainly can't hurt for recruits to hear from those 3 coaches - they were so instrumental in recruiting for the former staff. Thanks guys, and WDE.

  • agreed!!! I was at the game Sat in Tuscaloosa ...what would the state media reaction be if Trooper appeared on video like the bama coach to start every 4th quarter? Comical ,and then he spends the entire 4th quarter cheerleading in front of the TV cameras!!! Wonder why all we hear about is trooper waving a towel ???? I am a middle aged white guy and I will tell you that if Trooper were too no one would give a sh#% about him waving a towel!!! The guy can recruit and I would love to keep him - I dont listen to PF to decide what is best for our program~!!!! Here is one AU grad that would like to see Luper and Trooper both stay on board!!!

  • philip i have read things lately that make me confused about this situation of these 3 coaches staying on the road recruiting. First the secondary violations and Trooper & Looper being pulled off the road. This tells me there was not much to it. Second, i have read from some of your articles that there were coaches coddling players and getting them out of punishments. I assumed one of those coaches must have been Trooper. Is that incorrect? Can you tell us who were the enablers? Before the firing, i expected these three coaches to be the first to bolt and now they are staying to recruit. Does that say more about their love for AU or their insecurity of finding other employment?

  • I don't think either would have a problem finding another job. They are fantastic recruiters.

  • Class Act. Thank you, Coach Luper. I am proud of you and Coaches Trooper & Thigpin. War Eagle.

It's possible Luper, Trooper and/or Thigpen could get a look from a new coach but I'd still caution that it's unlikely they'll be retained unless the new hire has a previous relationship with them. Still possible but unlikely in my opinion.

Can't answer all of your questions but Luper and Trooper were taken off the road for a period of time due to secondary violations. The rumors of some widespread, serious investigation are not true according to everything we'v been told. They certainly wouldn't be allowed anywhere near the program if they'd committed any serious violations.
