The good, the bad, and the ugly

  • Good-remember Po Folks in Opelika, the Sanifreeze, the free movie with students hollering "volume" and "focus", lasting friendships, seeing Bo and Tommie Agee shopping for steaks, pregame Aubie antics, gamedays, Toomers lemonade, and earning degrees. Bad-navigating the labyrinth of Haley Center for the first few days, parking (then and now), American Colonial History class(grad level), my apartment on West Glenn, career ending injuries, and having to move on from the loveliest village after graduation. Ugly-registration in the old coliseum, poor advisors requiring students to take their classes so they would get paid (happened to me), rising tuition, loss of favorite haunts for "progress", road construction into Auburn in years gone by, losing to bama in anything ever. What are some of your memorable reflections?

  • Good - Sani-freeze, fall quarter, $183/quarter tuition, summer quarter, just about EVERYTHING!
    Bad- western civ freshman year, finals, Barfield, hangovers, physics class at 8am

  • Chemistry classes I took under Dr Kosolapoff, always interesting. EE classes I took under Dr Lowry, pushed me and made me learn to examine problems carefully. Racking pool part time in the pool room on Glenn near where the Waffle House is today. Peach shakes from the Flush. Playing cards at the BSU. Hot dogs from that little shop just down from the BSU. The egg drop at Haley Center. Hours spent punching IBM cards in the basement of Parker Hall. Pizza from the War Eagle Supper Club. After hours football games on Max Morris Drill Field, you never knew who you would find in those games.

  • Good: Hey Day (Beautiful girls saying "Hey"), Denaro's for Happy Hour beer at $1 per pitcher, Wreck Tech Pajama Party parade. (Still have dreams of pajama clad coeds walking through campus!), Bo running 80 yards for a touchdown against Florida in the fourth quarter in 1983, a thing of beauty.

    Bad: 87 parking tickets from the city of Auburn my final quarter. The Hungry Hunter crackdown (Dare as You Bare), yeah, we were all there!

    Ugly: Ain't nuthin ugly in Auburn. Nuthin.

    Correct sir. Went there with my grandparents many times. The old glass jars Mae for good momentous as grandad would always get me a couple when we went in.

    Good- living in AU for 15 years. Seeing every sporting event in AU from 93 to 2001. The ladies....love the ladies
    Bad- losing a vey good dude in PNUT. High school.
    Ugly- the first one on the list of ladies......had to start somewhere and worked my way to the most beautiful of them all....may dear Wife!

    My husband also lived in a house 2 doors up from the Flush early 90's and it seemed like there was a revolving door of roommates...maybe you were one of them?!

    Memories...I do remember PoFolks in Opelika (and some other soul food place? In downtown Opelika?), and the 280 Alamo in the middle of nowhere. And Sani-Freeze, and Amsterdam Cafe when it was only a place to play Shulbok. I remember the Wreck-Tech parades. I remember registering for classes in the coliseum...nightmare. I remember the eagle living in a large cage outside of Quad Dorms 9 and 10. I remember the "Old Gym" before it burned at an LSU game in the 1990's. I remember some great concerts in the coliseum. I remember lots of parking tickets and remember watching Bo run like hell. I remember watching Georgia fans getting sprayed with water hoses. I hazily remember sorority/fraternity mixers. I remember the upper deck being added to Jordan-Hare. I remember seeing Hargis Hall on fire late at night as a little girl. I remember the cannon at the old KA house on College getting bombed with paint regularly as a prank. I remember the Kopper Kettle. Many, many, many good years spent growing up in and going to college at AU!

  • Good - since my user name is The Flush this one is easy. The first date I had with my wife was at The Flush as freshman. Dated ever since and have been married for 20 years.

    Bad - Auburn was such a positive experience for me and my wife I cannot think of anything I would change. Ok - maybe the fish sandwich at the flush with lime green tarter sauce served in waxed paper with huge grease pockets was pretty bad.

    Ugly - Showing up to Dr. Maghsoodloo's stats class in IE wearing your hat backwards. He originated the saying "You might be a redneck.". Nothing like an guy from Iran who has been in Auburn since 1957 calling you a redneck with an accent.

  • Wreck Tech Parade, Drop and Add, poor advisors, getting lost in Haley Center, The BBQ House, Chuck's, Drunk Creek near Loachapoka, Tiger Pies, Mr. Gatti's, The Flush, laid back fun and easy classes during Summer Quarter, Wednesday Night Drinking Club at SAE or KA House in summer, great looking girls, buying kegs on credit at Super Foods or The A&P, Tenda Chick, 1989 Iron Bowl in Jordan Hare being the loudest and most colorful college football game I've ever attended, the "purple haze" over Jordan Hare from the orange and blue paper shakers, Pat Dye, great football stars, Supper Club, late, late nights at Harry's and the old Phi House band parties, drinks at Greely's that would knock you to your knees!, La Fiesta, Denaro's, New Year's in New Orleans for Sugar Bowls, House Party in PCB, Ryan's Restuarant, Darnell's, Chewacla in the spring, The Alamo Bar, most of all great times and great people!

    Even more memories! Drunk Creek in Loachapoka...I thought that was just an Auburn High School thing! !989 Iron Bowl...possibly the best game ever. Back to back Sugar Bowls...attended both...great fun. Chewacla State Park...always.

  • The good: Pretty girls, Godfather's pizza, Pat Dye showing up, all things football, Astronomy class at Chewacla with pretty girls
    The bad: Physics and Calculus for the first time
    The ugly: All night studying, falling asleep through important ME test after all night studying.

    The other night we were watching a home video with the kids. As the camera panned, the picture got fuzzy for a second as the autofocus adjusted, and I spontaneously yelled, "Focus!" My wife and I cracked-up, but the kids looked at us like we were just, well, cracked.

    The free movies were always awesome for a cheap date (although I don't miss the uncomfortable seats in Langdon). Walk across the street afterward for Baskin-Robbins or TCBY. We also did trivia night at Aubie's sometimes.

    Anyone remember eating at Behind the Glass, back when it was a restaurant? Weird place, but the chicken tetrazzini was great.

  • My friends and I got a rep for being a little too rowdy at Po Folks so every time we came we were put on the back porch. Also forgot to mention, seeing the one and only Jerry Clower in concert. He was a hoot. I lived across from the Tiger Terrace on west Glenn and spring days by their pool provided excessive eye candy.
