That our coaches continue to contact players who have made commitments to other schools is hardly news, my friend. You bought nothing new to the table.

Then what are you talking about we should respect a player's commitment to others?

These are the kind of commitments I like. There's no reason to commit until you're sure. If you don't know where you want to be, hold off on committing. I really don't understand all the flip flopping. Maybe that's just me, but once I've given my word I'm not going to back out. I wish most people would do the same.

Is there so much flip flopping? Seems to me there is very little. A school makes an offer, a teen accepts, and most stay with their agreement.

It's not to hard to understand. If we expect others to respect commitment to Auburn, then we must accept commitments to others. Folks that can chew gum and pat their belly at the same time understand it. Others seem to have trouble.

  • We seem to overlook that athletes have varying degree of acceptance in the world of football programs. This discussion started about an athlete that is widely accepted by many football programs as a sure fire linebacker at the next level. He received an offer from Auburn, he wanted an offer from Auburn, he committed to Auburn. Done deal. What about the athlete with middle of the road talent? He want's an offer from school A, but it doesn't come. After a bit of waiting, he accepts an offer from school B figuring that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. What should he do? Wait around and be left high and dry at LOI day.? Some say so. And some set standards for young men to follow that are simply unreal. That practice started sometime around Adam and Eve inhabiting the Garden. Nutty then and nutty now.

First of all don't try and act so high and mighty and condesending when your points don't really make sense.

Sorry, but that's the dumbest thing I've heard in relations to college football. Our coaches do it all the time, a la Reuben Foster. There are no "fair" ways in recruiting. Sorry, but if we had coaches that just laid down whenever a 16-18 year old kid verbally committed, our program would be sorry and I wouldn't want a coach who gave up so easily.

You can go join Bret Bielema while he whines while Urban takes all of his recruits.

It is a two way street, which is why you don't see our coaches getting all pissy if a player decommits from AU, they simply keep at it. A committment isn't secure until the LOI is signed and turned in.

By your standing if we flip OJ Howard or Reuben Foster are you going to be happy? Or is your "moral compass" going to override it because they were "committed" to our hated rivals....You and your condescending comments can get over it because I assure you our coaches would tell you it would be absurd to stop recruiting a guy because he is verbally committed.

  • I thought that chewing gum and patting your belly wouldn't be such a challenge to any fan. You proved that I was wrong about that. Concussions have delayed effects. Bud, you need a brain scan right now. I made points very clear. If you expect schools to respect commitments to Auburn, you kind of have to respect commitment to them. Get it. But just as clear, a commitment to any school is not binding and coaches treat them as just that, an expression of a recruits feeling on the day the commitment was made. Our coaches do not figure a recruit is in the bag until LOI arrives. You're trying very hard to misunderstand. Well, maybe not trying that hard.

Are you talking about our coaches respecting OUR players' commitments or other school's comittments? Because our coaches go after "comittmed" players too. It's just part of SEC life my friend.

If you look upstream, a respondent talks about honoring a commitment at the same time he yearns for Auburn to grab some other school's commitment. Thus, my point. You can't have it both ways and why not look at it as a commitment is what a boy feels at that moment, but the binding element is the letter of intent. That's the way it's practiced.

I agree, you can not have it both ways. I understand why people get upset, but they are not looking at it from an unbiased standpoint. I fully expect AU commits to take their visits and enjoy the process. For some to say our commits should stay committed and not visit any other schools while we are trying to recruit comitted players is unfathomable for me.

That kind of thinking sounds like Nick Saban when he was getting all pissy last year about his "commits" taking visits while he was recruiting committed players and then got mad at the players committed to Bama for taking visits. What a hypocritical douche.
