Targeting the RB’s

Get a detailed look at Auburn's top nine RB targets.

  • Just curious, but I was wondering as to why Auburn hasn't been going after the top of the ladder on these early offers. I'm aware these recruits are held in high regard, but of all the articles I've seen posted I've seen a lot of "He is rated as a 4 star and is the number 28 WR in this year's class." Why haven't I seen any "rated as the number 1, 2,3 guys" at their respective positions? Are they waiting to see how the players develop in their senior year or what? I fully trust the coaching staff and am not criticizing by any means, I am just truly curious.

  • I kinda thought the same thing, however its all about what you think of this "star rating" system as I have my guesses that the coaches are recruiting kids(video wise) instead based on stars. They get tapes, go to practices, go to games and watch them. Whatever Star they end up being so be it in the end. The coaches see something they like and can develop.

Understand most of these kids are going to top camps, programs, colleges summer camps or prep facilities so coaches kinda have a heads up about most of them.

  • The No. 1 RB is Thomas Tyner from Beaverton, Ore., who is committed to Oregon. No. 2 is Keith Ford from Cypress Ranch, Tex., and No. 3 is Tenpenny.

This is early for the rankings and early for Auburn's top targets. Both with change over the coming months.

    I linked the rankings below...

Cool, thanks. I realize Auburn can not reel in every single recruit, but I was just curious as to why it has seemed to be a trend with each position that we are generally targeting #10 - #30 type guys. Don't get me wrong those are still good players. I appreciate the feedback guys.

Also, I totally agree with the "take the ranking system with a grain of salt" idea. All in all they can be ver ysubjective, but for the most part they are quite similar from system to system so. Again, rankings don't really mean anything if they don't have the drive to succeed on the college level and get the proper coaching and support.

  • Just because a recruit scores out as the #1,2,3, etc. prospect at a specific position doesn't mean they score that high on our coaches' board. The player has to fit your scheme, be the right kind of kid you want to represent the school, etc., etc. etc. Not to mention, as Bryan alleviated to above, these are EARLY rankings... They still have junior days, camps, pre-season practice, season, and post season (all-star games) evaluations.

Bryan correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Yeldon in the bottom part of the top 10, if not even in the top 10, before his senior year and ended up #2 in the country on 247? What is your best guess as to where these guys rank on AU's board, since you've teased us with placing them in alphabetical order. :-)

Thanks for all you do, BM!

  • I can almost guarantee that Derick Green will by far be the stud from this class. I truly hope we have a shot because he is a guy that I believe can change a team's fortune.
Physics is an amazing thing and when you get 6' tall and weighing 215lbs (as a junior in high school -which puts him at 225 to 230 in college with a low center of gravity- and his 40 time is listed as 4.31 secs-blistering fast-you have a running back that no matter where he plays will carry the rock 25 times a game and after a little experience, and hopefully he will look at our awesome offensive line talent and depth we will have, he will be a 150 yards a game guy and probably will be in the NFL his senior year of college. That dude has the IT factor for sure.

  • Andrew Turman?

    Boatsnhowes

  • Caleb King, Lache Sistrunk (?), Mike Dyer...where are they now?

You never know about these guys. I agree with an earlier poster, there isn't much difference between the #4 guy and the #24 guy. Its how they handle college life and success ( or lack of success) that matters.

Recruit the player, his family, and the level of ball he played in high school. Arkansas doesn't rank real high but they spank Auburn's ass on the reg. Look at Cincinnati, Boise State, and TCU.

  • Hey Mr. Tenpenny, Saban dropped one commitment this year because of injury. DON'T allow yourself to be the next.

  • What is it about Woodley that has the Auburn coaches going after him so hard? I have watched several of highlight reels now and he doesn't seem to be anymore outstanding than any of the rest. I'm really curious what they think he has over everybody else? Yes, he's very good. It just seemed like the others were as well and I wanted to know what separates him from the others.

I don't think Woodley is the top target. Auburn has reevaluated all the RB's over the last couple of weeks and others are higher on the board now.

here's the rub on these rankings. Here it is just Feb and already Bama has commitments from the #1 LB, #1 DL, & #3 RB. We are trying to play catch up again.

The coaches that offer have something to do with the ranking IMHO. The rankings follow the coaches rather than the coaches follow the rankiings. The coaches are more qualified and also the guys assigning the rankings have thier own agendas that influence them.

Nobody at 247 has an agenda in ranking prospects other than to do the most thorough and professional job.
