  • Does anybody know the BEST way to collect my dogs "stuff" while I am walking them? They (there's 2 of them, 45 lbs & 100 lbs) can go as many as 4-5 times while we walk and I haven't the foggiest idea how to keep from leaving it on others' property. That's a lot of stuff to carry and where would I put it? Carry a backpack?

I have a small dog so it is not the same problem but I have seen others with large dogs carry a small back pack for that purpose, almost like one of those purses that you wear like a backpack that goes on and off easily. They make small pickup bags you can buy but most any small plastic bag will work. Around the Atlanta area many of the parks have them for you located at special disposal bins.

Basically with the pickup bags you put you hand in them, pick up the poop and turn the bag inside out. Then you are going to need another larger plastic bag to stow that in. That would go into the pack... carefully of course. Two dogs is going to require a lot of cooperation from the dogs.

Most of the places I go are walks in the woods of a mile or two or three or four. If I can get the pooch to wait until we get off into the woods a way and poop off trail I just kick some dirt/leaves over it and leave it even thought that isn't what the rules are. Most others I see do the same and that works in areas that aren't over used, so to speak. Nature takes care of it in a short while like that in our neck of the woods (the southeast) but when you put it in a plastic bag that goes in a plastic bag that can become some real bad stuff that you really have to be careful with. Trash does not just magically disappear.

You apparently do some hiking and maybe some backpacking from your signature photos so you have probably gone through it with how to deal with your own waste. Some places you dig cat holes, some places you turn over a rock, some places you have to pack it and tote it out, and some places have various types of privies. Different things are appropriate for different situations.

Thanks....I wish everybody understood what you just said. Where I walk my dogs, they don't, but I can see their point, too. If you step in it, it can be a mess. But there ain't nuttin' wrong with watchin' where you step.
