Who runs the defense at Alabama? By that I mean overall game planning, play calling, choosing schemes, etc. Obviously Saban has input and it's his overall scheme, but I am curious as to how much of it is Smart's coaching. I'm hearing lots of different things on this subject.

Bama ran this defense before Smart arrived. That should eliminate whose defense it is. I believe Smart is in charge of coaching the defense as Saban is hands on with the DB's.

But it doesn't eliminate Smart from RUNNING the defense.
Every coach runs a version of some other coaches defense.
Other than us last year, I'm not sure what that was.
