This is what I came across a couple weeks ago while out walking - 3 foot canebrake rattler. First photo before he was shot. Close up after.

The first picture is not really sharp but from the head and lack of markings, I would say it was a Cottonmouth and I'm more afraid of them than any other snake in the US other than possibly a Mojave rattler.

Yes, I think it's a cottonmouth too. I know it's not a clear photo, but I think she was too close considering what it is. The opacity over the eyes? Think it is in the process of shedding, that would explain the dullness of the scales?
