Small World. Great War Eagle Moment.

  • This past July I attended the Auburn Football Fantasy Camp, and while riding back to the hotel in one of the university vans, I was telling Jim Lawson a story about my sister, Meredith Sutton (a 1981 AU grad). She had been to Wimbledon in England in June of this year and she passed a gentleman wearing an Auburn shirt and she cried out, "War Eagle." The man turned around and yelled, "War Eagle" in reply and then gave my sister a high-five. After telling Jim this story, he immediately turned to me with his eyes wide open and said, "That was me. I was the one who gave your sister a high-five." I then called my sister on my cell and asked her if she remembered the Auburn man at Wimbleton and she said "yes." I then told her "Well, I'm sitting right next to him." To make a long story short, my sister, who lives in Florida, is coming to the Auburn-Florida game and we all plan to get together (Jim, my sister, and I) to tailgate.

You just read my mind. I was thinking the same thing when i got no shares til yours.. I like the positive vibe it creates reliving those moments. The AU family stretches far and wide.. I know there must be others with accounts and stories to share. WE.

  • I had one as I was walking out of the tasting room at Sam Adam Brewery in Boston,MA. A young lady waiting to go in and try the Brick Red Ale gave me a War Eagle. I might add the brick red is quite good, wish we could get it here.

  • Back in the Mid 80's I was in the Navy and we pulled into Haifa Israel. I went on a tour of the Holy Land and Tel Aviv. IN Tel Aviv I had an Auburn hat on and was waiting to cross the street and noticed an Israeli soldier on the opposite corner looking at me. As I started walking across the street he broke into a smile and as I approached him I got a "War Eagle"...

After talking to him I found out he was from Atlanta and grew up an Auburn fan, but he and his family moved to Israel and he was serving in their army.

  • My first time to go N of the Mason Dixon was a couple of years ago. Of course I had to wear some AU gear. As soon as I got off the plane in White Plains, NY I got a War Eagle! It was AUsome.

Gabe - a big shout out to Gadsden (my home town). I moved to Tampa in 1984 but visit annually. (My parents went to Jacksonville State). I recall the year that Bama grabbed Jerrell Harris from Gadsden City. My sister in law teaches at Gadsden City and told me that he was headed to Auburn until Muschamp headed to Texas. Then Kirkpatrick followed him the next year. We need to reverse that trend.

By the way, did you see the footage of the guys kayaking over Noccalula Falls?

WDE and thanks for your service!

  • You will find Auburn people everywhere. To date I have received/given War Eagle greetings in China, Japan, Italy, UK, UAE, and India along with just about every state in the union. I heard a story once that you can travel to the smallest town in Africa that has a hotel, check into the hotel, open the window, shout War Eagle, and have a real good chance of getting a War Eagle in return. I am beginning to believe it. WDE!

  • Last year in Vancouver, where I live, a taxi kept pulling up and beeping at me. I rolled the window down, and the passenger in the back yelled "War Eagle", which I replied to of course. I have the Tiger Eyes on my truck. Never gets old!
