Signing Day do-overs, Part II

The second in a 4-part series examining Auburn's deficiencies in recruiting.

  • How do you think a potential change of coaches would impact this position? The answer might include several possibilities. Would a new coach run an offense suited to Frazier's abilities? Would a new coach start Johnson from the outset? Where does Wallace fit in? It seems obvious to me that there isn't room for Frazier, Wallace and Johnson. Do you think Frazier transfers after the season? Does he have any confidence left at this point? There may be more questions than answers at that position. I'm like you in thinking that a Jr. College player needs to be pursued. I also think we could help ourselves in pursuing some Jr College talent at other positions.

  • Thanks Bryan.
Like so many I too bought in that Kiehl would step in after Cam...but putting the reigns on Malzahn really hindered that.
Looking back if we could've kept Barrett with his leadership alone, perhaps this year would be somewhat different...yet the way the line is playing, even Cam probably couldn't overcome that.

  • At last, reason for some of the muck is clearly shown and is so welcome. The program problems are obvious now and can't be contested. And yes, there is a series of error on the Coaching staff and results of those errors have converged and hatched this season. It isn't pretty. Bryan is doing a very good job of telling it like it is without rancor and nasty words. He is a jewel among pieces of trash. It's hard not to consider him an Auburn Grad. Now is the time when School administration, team, coaches, and fans should focus on healing the results of the errors made, and publically ignore the question of wno killed cock robin. That's, as has been said by the principles, is JJ's job subject to President Gogue's approval. The first order of business is to open up the passing game's fourth quarter constipation. And fans, our coaches need all the skill in their experience to do this and impressions are that none of those skills either lie in the fan base or are likely to reach the interface between us and the coaches. Harsh words won't keep recruits tied to their commitments and those words don't need boadcasting. Recruits can be held to their commitment by Auburn winning some games and playing well facing the strength of the better teams in the SEC.

  • I always thought good coaches assess what they have and plan their offense around their talent. Also the focus on recruiting should be on the weaknesses with an emphasis on the QB to run your offense. Forcing a Spread type QB to transistion to a power game doesn't make sense unless you have a very talented and experienced line. That's just on the offense. Poor decisions and planning - especially going after a high school athlete with issues.

Auburn has the fullback, QB and lots of tailbacks....shrug

  • Play all the youth and talent we have now. Get some JuCo's and try to do one thing very well on offense.

ITS NOT THE O-LINE PERIOD. I dont know why most of you think that our o-line is the problem. They have played great when you think about WHO is in there playing. Every team is going to give up some sacks. We give up sacks because our QB holds on to the ball WAY too long, I will admit that they have givin up sacks where our QB has no chance, but ALL teams DO. Being smart at the QB position would help our sacks go down by 95%. Throwing the ball away, running the football, stepping up in the pocket, and making audibles at the line of scrimmage when blitzes are being shown. These are little things that would help. WDE

  • The more I read the more I feel our Coach Baby is Ugly. What good is hiring professionals, one who is considered a guru (CGM) and not letting them do their jobs? I get it when he has some expertise with D so has the ear of the DC, but offensive?

Those are great questions but there's no way for me to answer them. A new coach could do a lot of things and that's too hard to predict.

  • They need more than just Johnson coming in next year. If they are afraid of running him off by signing another qb, there is a problem.

Go find a qb with an arm that is a fierce competitor and let him play. Keep it simple stupid.

  • I don't buy at all the nonsense that pike would be starting by now. Yes, he is a tight end at louisville. Plus, I remember after he left Philip or one of the other staff writers said that when he came in that pike turned out to be "not as good as advertised." He had way too many issues to have ever brougt in to start with.
