  • I really liked that you pointed out Jawara White, BM. I think he would have helped a lot this year. We have definitely lost a lot of players over the past few seasons. I wonder how it compares to the national average. Or the current top 25.

Bryan....How many of the 25% of the "lost" recruits/players has the AU staff been able to replace? (Doesn't Saban seem to root out lesser players to make room for better ones?) Thanks for looking at this.

I just went strictly by the numbers. You can't sign and keep 25 players every year or you'll go way over the 85 limit so any school can replace lost players.

BM, just based on my very limited ability coaching middle school, physical conditioning, and coaching get you beat in the 4th quarter. Do you think there is a major problem with strength training and condition at Auburn? I thought Cory Grant said UA program is much tougher than AU's.

I don't have enough information to determine whether Auburn's strength and conditioning is any better or worse than its opponents.

  • I am sorry, but losing players are part of the game. Weather we lose them to grades, crimes, injury, loss of interest, or they never pan out it is the coaches responsibility to make it work to the minimum expectations at worst. This staff has fallen well below the expectations of these loses. They have done so by a country mile.

I appreciate the article, but I am not letting this staff off the hook. It just is not there to justify 1-5.

Where in my article did I say it wasn't the coaches responsibility? I'm not making excuses, just examining one issue that I think this team has had, which is related to recruiting.

  • Good article BM, I also think some great points have been made by others on the type of players and the fashion they left the team.
I know we are talking about attrition and everyone keeps talking about Rollison getting the boot but what about missing out on Driskel. I know Gus got his guy in Frazier but Driskel is looking better every week.

Those things have to be corrected before they happen. The drops, the penalties, etc.

That is the whole problem with this year. Coaches obviously don't know what to do. They keep changing players, formations, anything - to try to win.

On the job training doesn't work in surgery, nor does it work in the SEC. We need a staff that has the right plan, one they can stick to.

Changing players is what a coach does when players play to an ability that causes heart failure in coaches and fans. That's prevalent with young players more than in seasoned teams. Saw a lot of that in 2009 at Auburn. More of it in 2011 and some this year. Most surgeons get training, on the job during residence as well as in classrooms usually in Med School. Most men that have jobs that are useful are trained to the final degree on the job. Those that do things totally unnecessary don't recognize that. Graduate Engineers get a diploma that says Mechanical Enginneer or Electrical or something else. What it should say is, "you;re smart enough to go out and learn." Where do they learn? On the job, of course.

In residence and in Med school - correct sir. But not AFTER they start getting paid millions. Same as with most business men.

Hey, if the coaches weren't trying out different players under the current circumstances they would get dinged for that by the fans also.

I think you get my point, or at least you should. Even the most casual fan can look at 14-0, 8-5 and then 1-5 and see that things aren't going in the right direction. Drastic times call for drastic measures.

Auburn isn't residency, nor is it med school.

No. I am not saying you are Bryan. It is nice to know the actual numbers. This opinion is mine and not a contradiction of any opinion you may have. I just skimmed the read and made an attempt to stop the ones who think it can be a plausible excuse. Short of tragedy or PSU scenario Auburn should not be in this position.

  • Bryan, I thoroughly understand losses by many means when dealing with 18-22 year olds. But this coaching staff's refusal to reach into the ranks of the JUCO's around the country and fill those needs for a couple of years has now left continuous gaping holes in positions. QB, LB, S, come to mind right now!

To be fair, 247, Rivals, and ESPN come out with JUCO player ratings so late in the year that it is tough for our coaches to get in on those guys who have been recruited by other programs for a lot longer. (kidding)

  • BM our attrition is not from players not being able to compete but more from bad luck injuries, grades, flame-outs (personel or legal issues). The 2009 class: QB Tyrick Rollison (grades) would be a RS junior and would be better to deal with an inexperienced OL and a new offense. OL Andre Harris (injuries) would be a RS Junior and after four years in a weight room would be a very powerful guard. Harris Gaston LB (true atttrition) felt others were better than him and transferred. OL Aubrey Phillips (health) would be more competition for the line. RB Dontae Aycock (flame out) would be a power back that this offense needs. RB Brandon Jacobs (chose baseball) big power back. And that's just some of the class of 2009. And this a little sampling of a class that you get when you blow up the coaching staff and have to bring in a new staff. Would hate to see what happens with this current class of commitments. 2010 sign 3 LBs Jesse Curry (true attrition) Jawar White (injuries) Jake Holland (may have needed to RS) but 1 LB out of 2 classes kind explains the luck we have, and LaDarious Owens, maybe the most well develope and muscularily defined football player ever, but couldn't transition from DE to LB and now back at a position where we are more than stacked. The other 3 LBs were rated 3 stars, so stop acting like the coaches took some 5 stars and turned into non tacklers. And the two WRs AGoodwin (speed to burn) a guy that was fast enough to run by a 10 yard cushion. And SKitchens a big possession receiver would be another target and competition for TReed. Still feel if receivers have problems getting off line put someone in motion and run route from that (The pros do that). 2011 class I would say maybe the LM that were RS should have played last year Westerman, and Robinson and TRiley (transferred to GA Tech). Would help eliminate that inexperience line problem. Considering that Mack from 2010 is out (personel/injury). If Westerman and Robinson do develop I doubt they stay the full 4 years. Mike Dyer was great, and a guy when he first arrived but he's gone and we still should have a stable of backs that can get it done (OMAC, TMason, Mike Blakely, and Corey Grant (God loves, speed kills). Can we run them since we are suppose to be a running team.

  • BM; wow... Reading it like that... Seeing names WITH numbers. Shows how much we've lost in mistakes, bad decisions and so on. I'm glad we had Dyer; but man... Look at Lattimore now. What would he be like with Prosch leading the way?
