Get the latest on Auburn signees Darrion Hutcherson, Jaquay Williams and Jovon Robinson.

  • They need to focus more on studies if they want to make it in Division 1 football.

I'm not sure that you want guys that cant get through high school on your team.

Yeah because the Nick Fairley's of the world never pan out.

  • Brian, does AU get that Hutcherson scholarship back since he is gone for 2 years, and might not ever find his way to Auburn?

  • I think that if they bust their butts and get done what needs to be done, then there shouldn't be any problem with having them on the team.

You can't judge someone just because they had issues in high school.

  • There are always exceptions, but in general it is better to have players that do well in the classroom. Players being held out of games because of academic suspension is not helpful.

Get it back... they never gave a scholarship to him because he was not eligible to attend Auburn. There is nothing to get back.

when has that ever held back the 13th grade in W. Vance?

    golong

  • That is disappointing to see some of our top prospects not make it into school, but at least two of them could be joining the team as soon as January

    Lol.

Yes, because no JUCO players ever pan out right?

Thanks, but I guess scholarship wasn't the right word. I was actually asking about getting the recruiting slot back this year since we now have at least one less signed last year.

  • This is disappointing. In past years this would have really hurt but we do have some depth at these positions. Hopefully they will be Tigers once their prep/JUCO work is complete.

  • Well to bad, was hoping for the best! If we can get 2 of the 3 back in a year we will be doing good.

If you are thinking about Letters of Intent (to sign a scholarship), all that is over and done with until next February when National Signing Day starts. Signing Letters of Intent is only for a few months (something like Feb through May). But keep in mind that you can sign a scholarship without signing a Letter of Intent. We could sign someone to a scholarship today that has not signed a Letter of Intent.

I may be wrong about this, but I think a Letter of Intent is only binding for the following fall semester or summer session and if it isn't executed then it becomes void.

Omac went the prep school route.

  • BM, quick question: Has the NCAA denied them? Like, they didn't make it through the clearing house? Or did the time at Auburn run out? They couldn't enroll because they've missed too much class.

What's the difference between a "prep" scool and JUCO? And why would Hutch have to be gone two years? What's to keep him from transferring right after this season, then sitting out next season and starting his Auburn eligibility in 2014...? Kind of like Mike Blakely.

I believe I understand what your asking and yes it frees up one of the 85 scholarships we are allowed. So they could add another recruit for this class in place of Hutcherson.

  • I believe a school may enroll students in January that would count against the previous year's total. The team must also comply with the overall limit of having 85 or fewer players on scholarship at any one time. I don't know exactly how all this impacts how many slots we have available for January enrollment. We signed 21. Williams and Hutcherson don't count now. I don't know if Pike or Robinson count against the max of 25. Pike finished one semester and went through spring drills. Robinson enrolled in the summer and practiced with the team in the pre-season until his transcript issues arose. I don't know whether he finished any course work or if it would count since his transcript was discovered to be fraudulent. Pike and Miller were January enrollees so I don't know whether they counted against 2011or 2012. We should have more slots than we need since right now I don't think we have more than 1 or 2 players planning to enroll early and it's possible that Williams and/or Robinson might possibly enroll in January.

This small class has gotten smaller, with 17 players currently in school and on the roster. In order for this overall class to be considered as having made a significant contribution to the Auburn program, the vast majority of those 17 will have to make significant contributions during their college career. Looking at past classes who have completed their eligibility, usually about half or fewer of signees end up being significant contributors during their college career. I would think that signing quality players who would enroll in January is now a higher priority for our coaching staff than it was a few months ago.
