For those of you who might have missed it, here's slow motion footage of the cheap shot Quinton Dial placed on Aaron Murray:

    http://youtu.be/SeuTKYD5CGA

No way you will ever get that call against Bama, not as long as the SEC is hell bent on Bama winning another NC......

  • Undeniable facts:
    1. Murray put himself in play when he moved toward the ball, period. Doesn't matter if he was 80 yards from the play, he moved toward the ball and that opens him up.

    2. Dial led with his helmet and put it on Murray's chin/facemask.
    3. No way in hell it is a legal hit. UGA is my second favorite SEC school simply because I know a lot of alumni that I play golf with and I hate Bama fans, but not their team or school. There is no way that this can be seen as a legit shot without bias.

All this coming from someone who thinks that incidental helmet to helmet shouldn't be called. you know, those shots where both people are bent down low and hit each other? Those are legal hits in my opinion but they claim helmet to helmet on them. If the flag is thrown here then they got their penalty, done. They didn't pull the flag so the SEC should step in because the next shot like this might end up with someone biting their tongue off or paralyzed. It is a crap shot and everyone outside Tuscaloosa agrees.

    Anyone really surprised by this?

No suspension warranted, he was not a defenseless QB.

I agree that he is in play and not defenseless but can you really argue that it was a malicious helmet to helmet shot? That was one of the crappiest hits I have seen in a long time. I think a suspension is especially warranted since it is a top team with a lot of eyes on them, everyone needs to see that those type of shots won't be tolerated but anyone.

Exactly. After a change of possession, the "protecting the QB" bs goes out the window. Murray just didn't take care of himself.

You are laughable. But here's how you even up things if you ar Richt and Georgia. First offensive series for bammer following the half, I tell my D...I want everyone of you to hit A.J. with everything you've got...if you misaim and go helmet to helmet by mistake, well, stuff happens. Then I dare the officials to throw a flag. NOTE:They would.

This is not new. Anyone remember why Lane Kiffin kicked when he did in 2009 ? He said " I was afraid of running a play and seeing that yellow hanky on the ground". (That would take them out of FG range). Of course it was blocked and Cody immediately takes off his helmet(penalty) to celebrate.

Edit: Here is Kiffin's actual quote from the 2009 bammer game :

“I wasn’t going to let the refs lose the game for us there and some magical flag appear” Talking about why he didn’t attempt to move the ball closer before attempting the winning FG against Alabama.

I remember being at Legion field in 1979. First offensive play of the game for Tennessee a beautiful play action pass down the middle for a touchdown. Whoops, a holding flag. Just sayin.

  • I don't care if the QB was technically in play or not, it was an unsportsmanlike cheap shot by any reasonable standard. Not about the helmet to helmet at all, it should have been called unnecessary roughness at the very least.

This is absolutely true. In 2002. Not 2012. This type of hit has been deemed needless ever since Warren Sapp blew up some O-lineman who was basically minding his own business.
