Serious recruiting question...

  • Is Auburn going to be able to hang on to any recruit that is being highly recruited by other schools? It seems that we are losing everybody that visits other schools. What is going on, does the few coaches on this staff so far not want these kids? Are the kids not liking these coaches? We seem to be losing way more kids than any other program going through coaching changes.

    As I've said many times, recruiting is about relationships. Many of these commits have a better relationship with coaches at other staff than with the new Auburn staff right now. It takes time to build those relationships back up.

    I'd say this is pretty normal attrition for a coaching change. The problem, if you want to call it that, with Auburn is it had/has commitments from a lot of high profile prospects that are highly coveted by other schools. Those schools have had a pretty good idea the Auburn staff was getting fired for a couple of months and pounced on those kids early.

  • Guys, don't blame Gus on this whole thing. That's not him that's JJ and Gogue taking so long to start over. He could have been building those relationships earlier but they dragged and dragged their feet and now look where we are at with recruiting.

    Actually, he couldn't have. He wasn't going to leave Arkansas State before the season was over.

    This may not be a question that can be actually answered based off knowledge, but, how confident was Gus about getting the position, once he found out there was interest?

    We will lose some highly recruited players. I also think with Gus's offensive mind, we will gain some that we might not have been in on with the previous staff. Each coach will recruit to his scheme or strength. I believe if we could hang on to some of the defensive studs that are committed, with the right coaching, we could be the first "spread" team with a great defense. WDE!!

  • We had a visit today from an OG when we don't have an OL position coach. He wisely said he'd like to talk to his coach b4 he commits. We're a long way from February and the fat lady isn't even warming up. We're going to sign a boatload of
