Before you can miss a tackle you have to be in position to make a tackle. The game plan and defensive play calling is not the problem. Guys are in position. Guys just don't know how to tackle or take good angles. That is position coaching. Your DC does not teach tackling to the DL. That is why you have a DL coach. Roof did not pick Pelton, Chizik did.

If the guys were not even in position to blow tackles then I would be all over Roof and the calls, but when you have the RB contained in the backfield for a loss and 3 guys are left hugging air while the RB briskly walks 15 yards you have other problems. When you give up 3rd an 19 because of blown coverage it is different than if you give up 3rd and 19 because you were in the wrong formation to defend the play.

Roof is very highly respected among defensive coaches for a reason. He really knows his stuff, and has a much longer history of success than any other coach on staff other than Chizik. Roof wrote the book on running the multiple defense. I have yet to see Auburn really run the type of defense that Roof is famous for. I think what we are seeing is mostly a Chizik defense. If Roof leaves it will be because he is not allowed to run his defense. I don't think Chizik will fire him because it is 80% Chizik's defense. I think this defense will be really good next year. It is very, very young.

We've been playing football for around 120 years at Auburn. The worst scoring defense in our history is this years'. The second worst in that 120 years was 2009. So Roof has coordinated the worst 2 defenses in over a century of football, and he's only been here 3 years. I'd say that speaks for itself.

What game were you watching? Trent Richardson ran the ball down our throats for over 200 yards. This was not Tyler Wilson throwing for 500+ yards and 5 TD.... Their average QB did not destroy our defense, unless you mean he did a hell of a job handing the ball off.

Actually richardson had an average game with excetion of two runs that accounted for almost half of his yards. Before the last drive he was barely over a 100 yds on 25 carries. Yeah he ended with 203 on 27 carries but the majority of his carries were for 3 yds or less.Be is a good back probably better than Ingram and finally wore us down but only after the game had been all but settled..

And how many times has Auburn fielded a defense this young? How many of those years did we have an offense that was this bad?

The thing about defensive stats is that the more the defense is on the field the worse the stats are going to be. Since our offense can not get a first down our defense is on the field most of the game. By the 4th qtr they are shot. We saw the same thing in 2009.

Don't get me wrong, the defense has played really bad, but not because of the scheme or play calling. We can't execute, we can't tackle, we can't get off our blocks. The same can be said for the offense. We can't block.

If your offense can not stay of the field the defense is going to get hung out to dry.

We are playing without a senior class. It is the equivalent to the NCAA taking away 20 scholarships in one year. Tuberville's 2008 class was amazingly awful. What we are seeing is the equivalent of skipping a class.

Next year this is going to be a significantly better football team. Not because of who the coaches may or may not be, but because they will have a large experienced junior class. We are basically a team of high school kids right now.

  • Enough blaming coach Tubbs..CGC won NC with his recruits and takes credit for it..blames him for this beat down..what happened to his 2 recruiting classes?..can these guys coach?..Today's game twice bammer Tight Ends were open without any defender in at least 20 yards around(Two TDs)..can't believe Neiko Thorpe has been in this program for four years!banghead

Was Cam a Tubbs recruit? Cam was the key to the success of this offense last year.

CGC's classes are freshmen and sophomores. You really expect a team of freshmen and sophomores to compete in the SEC? IT is not about who's class is what. IT is about the fact that for most of these kids it is their first year of SEC football.

Both our OL and DL play high and are getting owned by more experienced teams. These kids are still adjusting to the speed and intensity of the game at this level. You can not coach a kid to be ready for the speed and intensity. They have to experience it. They have to play until it slows down for them. For guys like Thorpe it has never slowed down.

I'm am not happy with what I saw on the field this year, but asking the coaches to get a high school team ready to play in the SEC is a pretty tall order. Most of these kids have never played together before this year. They have no chemistry. Next year we will have a strong Junior class and they will have some much needed experience.
