Saban's past coaches.....

  • For those who are anti Kirby, let's look back at the coaching stats and see what has and hadn't worked out.
    Derrick Dooley - position coach at lsu with saban
    Sal Sunseri - position coach before ut gig
    Will Muschamp - dc for saban before moving on
    Jimbo Fisher - oc for saban before moving on
    Kirby Smart - dc for saban for 5 years

    My point is the odds are better when someone has been a coordinator before taking a hc position somewhere. I hate saban as much as anyone, but he is the best defensive mind in my opinion in all college football. If anyone knows the ends and outs of good defense it's Kirby. The other 2 additional positives for hiring him is we could b a distraction for them in the nc game and they may hire him down the road if someone else don't. Also keep in my we may have the best front 7 recruiting class and he could keep it intact.

  • Any coach that has worked under short stuff definitely see's first hand how to build and maintain a successful program. Now can that translate into being a successful head coach. Sometimes yes and sometimes no. I just feel Auburn is at a crucial point in its football program and taking one this time around that has not proven he will be successful it is a big big risk. However, if it's not going to be Petrino, or another proven head coach, I am for taking the risk with one of satan's Disciples.

    Probably the bigger difference is the two successes were also coordinators in another program prior to getting a HC gig.
