Robert Gibbs, Presidential Press Secretary, an AU Man

  • Obama's press secretary, Robert Gibbs, grew up in Auburn...two articles out of USA TODAY. Said he was on the sidelines of an AU home game. Politics aside...I like what he saying

  • Wow, I've never been so torn about how I feel about a person.

Good articles though....even considering who he is, it still elicits pride to see someone in that position speak so deeply about Auburn.

Well, at least he is not a republican. WDE

  • He's an idiot! Nobody ever said that everyone who grew up in Auburn was smart. And he did not attend Auburn, he just grew up there. If he was so passionate about Auburn, why did he not attend Auburn? I do not know that, just asking.

at 18 i was ready to get away from my parents. huntsville to auburn was a nice amount of space.

  • Same here. If I was to succeed, I was going to have to get away from all the crazy friends that I grew up with. That and Auburn rocks.

  • Guess that I never gave Gibbs the credit he deserved! War Eagle.

  • Gibbs went to Auburn HS then on to N.C.State. Personally I think he is nothing but a silly little tool for Obama to face the press and make stupid remarks. I wish he would quit getting associated with AU.

Based on my political beliefs I was a little embarrassed initially to discover that Robert Gibbs was a graduate of Auburn High School (my high school). Putting all politics aside I've been really proud of the way he's represented Auburn in articles and video over the last couple of weeks. I realize that he attended NCS, but inside he's all Auburn Tiger!

    War Eagle!

Auburn people feel a deep and passionate responsibility to uphold standards not written on paper, but lived from the heart.

  • he didnt attend Auburn because he played soccer. Auburn does not have a men's soccer team. in addition, just because someone has a different political opinion than you does not make them an idiot. on the other hand, the fact that he works for the most powerful man in the world might say something about his level of intelligence.

    wdeato

  • That's how it is with family. You can disagree and still be family. See you at the game Mr. Gibbs.

Have you heard him try to defend "the most powerful man in the world"'s policies? If he is not an idiot, he certainly sounds like one.

There may be a reason Auburn does not play "men's" soccer.

Wargator...read DangerDogs post. We probably have a lot of so called "idiots" who are AU fans. It just make us like every one else.... Not perfect....

  • He to NC State on a scholy I'm sure there are many fans that love as much or more then some of the people that went to school at AU. Hell I know few that have degrees from AU that that stand the town or the school.

  • Come on guys. Robert Gibbs is a nice person. The entire Auburn family doesn't have the same beliefs politically or religiously, but we all believe the same Auburn Creed and we all bleed orange and blue. War Eagle!

  • I will note too that working for the president does not necessarily mean you're the best person for the job.

    Perfect example....

Christina Romer. She resigned as chair of Obama's Council of Economic Advisers this year. She is unquestionably intelligent. However, the fact that someone KNOWS a lot of things doesn't make them fit to do a particular job.

Even if I studied all there is to know about classical music, it won't give me the ability to play the piano like Mozart.

Here is her experience that led her to advise on the economic policies of the country....

    Glen Oak High School
The College of William & Mary - Bachelors
Massachusetts Institute of Technology - Doctorate
    Princeton University - assistant professor
    Cal-Berkley - Professor

You may think that the above is the education portion of her resume. Nope. The above is her entire resume...never been out of the classroom. She is class-room smart and could probably talk economic theory far longer than we could talk Auburn football. But her class-room intelligence didn't help her at her job in the White House.

Gibbs seems similar to me. Regardless of his resume, he does seem a bit in over his head when it comes to his job. That doesn't mean he's an idiot. His job is one of the more difficult jobs on this earth.

Swbghz and I may not agree on the Bowl system and playoff possibilities, but we definitely agree on Gibbs.
