I pose a question to those of you willing to think about it - is the appropriate response to losing always getting rid of the coach? It seems like it is the ONLY response some of you have. Last year Georgia went 6-7, and this year they are 8-2 so far. What changed between this year and the last? Auburn was 14-0 last year and this year we are 6-4. What changed?

Think about it this way - if losses should always end in coaches being fired, then pretty much every year the answer is to get rid of HALF THE COACHES from schools around the country.

  • Interesting perspective realist. The problem is you are trying to rationalize with people with the mental capacity of Harvey Updyke...unfortunately we have them too. The trolls have also come out of the woodwork tonite to get everyone riled up so they can gather good material for the turd's "Meltdown Thread".

  • A loss like this shakes me to my very foundation as an Auburn man. I cannot really attack a coach this time but I certainly can't defend any of them today either. This is painful and it will linger for a while. I will say that even with a national championship last year, our defense still was good but not great. I would love a great Auburn defense again. I'm not sure what needs to happen to have another great Auburn defense. I just know that they will have to improve from the last three years to be considered great.

  • This loss is not the reason most are touting a change in the defensive coach. There are measures for defensive units, just as there are individual positions in football. I would ask you, what measure of our defensive unit, over the last three years, would make you think they will ever get a defense to dominate a game?
I know you will go into the 2010 season and BCS game. Was our defense really all that? I would re-look at this defensive unit measures, over Roof's tenure. I think you will realize that he is not a defensive genius, no, not even an average defensive coach.

  • I believe this season has been a look at where we actually are. A young team that has overachieved. I believe we have overachieved because our coaches are good at what they do, and the young talent is that good. The teams we have lost to are where they should be as teams. Jr and Sr heavy with experience. With coaching stability we will get there in one to two years.
That said.... I can see a lack of coverage knowledge with our DBs. That position coach needs to be deeply evaluated.

I agree with your post 100% but the problem in this case is that the defense (coordinator and staff) has been bad for 3 years. We were probably the worst defensive team in the BCS era to win the crystal ball.....our offensive prowess masked the problems last year.
