That favorable spot was huge in the 1st quarter. Kept their drive alive. I'm not saying the outcome would have been any different but they would have had to punt on their first possession and would have given our defense a big confidence boost. That being said - that was only one down. There were too many others where we just couldn't stop them. I don't know why the 2nd quarter has been our achilles heal all year. Major mystery to me. When things take a turn for the worse, we just don't have the maturity to bow up and turn it back to our favor. I think this is where our youth shows up the most - not in play or talent but in mental toughness. It will come, but damn it's painful to watch - especially when you live in georgia. But as painful as it is for us fans, the players have to live with their performance. They're the ones who have to watch their mistakes over and over again on film. It's a tough lesson to learn - this year has been full of tough lessons - but I firmly believe that these experiences will pay huge dividends in the future. One of the keys to the attitude of last year's team was the tough lessons most of them learned from the last few years of Tubs tenure. We'll beat Samford but everyone better get ready because the bama game could be just as ugly as this one - or we could finally put it together and play mistake free ball and have our best game of the year (one can dream). Bama is beatable but we'll have to have our best game day to do it. And while we may end up 7-5, I can live with that considering the predictions for us at the beginning of the year and how many players we lost from last year's team. Can't say I'm overjoyed with 7-5 but sure is a hell of a lot better than 5-7! And for those that predicted that AU would be the first team to win a National Championship and not make it to a bowl the next year, well let's just say that I won't type the words in my head . . . . I bet I was!!! The defense sucked last year also. Our offense was good enough to overcome the weakness.
