Question for Brian Matthews - Spencer Region

  • What happened to Spencer Region, OT from Cullman? If I am not mistaken, early on he was considered a Bama lock who up and committed to AU his junior year. Then he later backed out and said he was wide open again. Another on-line list shows him not having an offer from AU or Bama. Do you know the story here? H is listed as "high" on AU. Why wouldn't we take him if he wanted to come?

    Thanks for your insight.

  • I have wondered the same thing. The database has him listed as "hot" for AU (along with LSU and Wisconsin). I did not think he was in AU's plans.

  • Region de-committed from Auburn last year and the AU staff has shown little interest in him since. There's little to no chance he ends up at Auburn. AU wants to finish with 1-2 offensive linemen and he's not in their plans.

  • I agree. I remember the press conference when he announced. There was an awkward silence when he announced AU. I was surprised at his commit but wasn't when he changed his mind. I agree with you ashville about his selfishness. That's prolly a reason we didn't recruit him any harder

  • Thanks for the info. I certainly trust the coaches but was just curious because when he committed last year, it seemed like a big W for AU in the in-state recruiting wars.

  • He was quoted the other day as saying Bama is completely off his list. Sounds like it will either be Wisconsin or Georgia.

  • I do NOT think this "KID' is a team player...he is ALL ABOUT ME...we don't need , don't want someone like that...Coaching staff probably read his " I " personality....Good luck in Wisconsn...Hope you enjoy the weather and cheese!sarcasm

If you have to ask why I love Auburn so much...never mind

  • From what I remember, he had set a press conference to commit to Alabama but Nick called him and told him not to commit just yet because I think he still wanted to take his official visits to other schools and you know how Nick is about that. He got mad and called Auburn who had been recruiting him hard also and talked to the coaches about committing. The next thing you know he's totally jumped ship from Alabama to Auburn. It stunned everyone at the press conference. It was really quite comical the looks on their faces, even the family members. No one thought it would last and sure enough, once he cooled off and Bama started wooing him again, he decommitted from us and changed back to them. Don't know why Bama lost interest unless they only wanted him back because we had him. Anyway, apparently his draft stock as dropped like a lead baloon.
