What I've noticed in Pawlowski's recruiting is that he is constantly putting his marbles into player that have a high propensity to be drafted. I don't think you can be a sucessful baseball team off of that type of recruiting. At least not consistantly. Marginal baseball players is the route. You sign them and hope that they stay a few years. Most players in HS that are high on the list to be drafted will go...the one's that are not high in the draft and have a good first or second year in college will go... It's a fine line to recruit. JMO

You do realize that we signed one of the top SS in the country a couple of years ago, who made just about every HS All-American list out there. His name is Zach Alvord. He just hasn't panned out.

He struck out a lot in high school and had a marginal glove. I think that has held true. Most pro teams projected him as a power hitting 2nd baseman or a 3rd baseman if he filled out. He was a bigger bodied shortstop in high school. Most of those guys don't stick at short. It's dumb that we didn't sign more true shortstops. Really dumb.

He hit .330 in high school. They also thought Justin Bristow was the 2nd coming of Cal Ripken. Ryan Tella is the best position talent we've got and it's really not close. With more work in the cage and more experience at the plate, Blake Austin can be the best we've got - kid has major league skills behind the plate defensively on a huge frame. Cooper has some major upside as well. Alvord may be a bp superstar but they don't throw many off-speed pitches in bp.

that is so true is so many areas. My son tested n the 98th percentile in his IQ testing in high school but he dropped out of college and trade school because he is just not driven.
